I made a promise.... - Says rafa

The first goal was simply a sublime strike..end of.  Though in allowing himself to stray a couple of yards outside the confines of the 6 yard area, it made any save even less likely.... You might wonder whether Reina would have fared any better.

as for the whole defensive errors argument. For me, had Rafa stuck with Jose for this one, you may also find a case for arguing that, such errors could and may of been avoided because the whole unit ie. back 5 (including the goalie) had been, up until that point, pretty impenetrable...or at least used to each others movement. why change it?  For mere Sentimentality alone?  If i were Rafa i wouldnt be making these promises at the start of any campaign in the first place. That precaution may have brought about a distinct lack of 'egg on the face' as a result. Still its all ifs and buts....the next game is fast approaching, whoever is chosen to represent the last line of defence, will have a lot to gleen from these recent experiences that need never have been dished out in the first place...if the manager wasn't so quick to please.

agreed, we are unbelievable for finding scapegoats, truth is collectively we made too many errors both rafa and the team, As for the goals ,he first goal and the build up to it, was freakishly good football and I wouldnt blame any keeper for it, the second there was 5 liverpool players who should have got some sort of tackle in on rosicky, the third goal, carragher and dudek can both be blamed but thats football, it happens.... the truth is we had most of the possession and we cud not collectively break down arsenal, we were pretty much bereft of ideas in the final third of the pitch and this is not the first time this has happened this season or last. Personally I think starting peter crouch was a mistake, and it was a mistake to let him finish the game, he tried his best but it wasnt the type of game for him out there with Arsenal defending like they did...he isnt a poacher and what is sadly lacking this year is a poacher... As for Bellamy what was the story with his hamstring? shud he have been on the bench if he was injured? And if he was injured what was the story with robbie fowler is he injured at the moment as well?
Im not going to have a go at individuals as nobody goes out there with the intention of playing badly but collectively when it comes to playing big sides we are sadly lacking this year.....Its as if the players dont have the self belief against these sides like chelsea, utd, and arsenal.

I would prefer him to keep his word to Dudek. I know Dudek looked a bit rusty but the 2nd and 3rd goal as everyone says were very badly defended.

Keep your word Rafa - your a good fella and Dudek derserves another shot at the Arsenal.

I like many was suprised when I got to the game and heard that Dudek had replaced Pepe, but we all agreed that Pepe must have a slight injury or something,

I have to say Im far from happy now that Rafa has given his reason for the change
ffs its proffesional football we play!

How can he even consider playing our second keeper who cant be match fit due to lack of opportunuties against the gunners, with a fit Henry having just returned in scoring form,
Pepe has been in good form of late, it just has to be said, it was very poor judgement from Rafa,

Rafa is the best thing thats happened to us for many a year,
but yesterday he just took a liberty he had no right taking with OUR club!
If we drew a minnow, fair do's, but not the gunners ffs

I'm pretty sure as manager of our club he had every right to make that decision, wise or not. He is the boss and he makes the decisions. Its also his club likes it our club.

Me, like you would of played Reina, but horses for courses and all that.

poor managing from a very good manager... happens... hope he learns from his mistakes...
dudek WILL play in the carling cup imo... we'll probably rest some of our other first teamers too...
if we get to the final and are playing a side like manutd or chelsea... i'd want reina in the goal !
dont care abt rafas promises.. team comes first.. bigger than the players... bigger than the manager !
shouldnt have made that promise in the first place imo !

Why the f%&k is he making stupid promises like this which jepordise Liverpool's season, I mean it, I'm starting to get really annoyed with Rafa, far too much tinkering for a supposed tactical genius!!

Well I think that if Dudek is capable of playing a Champions league final, he's able to play against Arsenal in the F.A cup.

Not sure what would happenned if Reina played, you never know. But man management sometime requires promises, you have to keep everybody content more or less, it's an art that would deserve it's own thread.

I think that playing another keeper in the cup is a common practice in many teams and we should understand that promise. Hard luck, that's all.

Imo it would be fu*king stupid to play Dudek in the FA cup and then leave him out of the Carling cup game. I mean obviously Rafa wasn't really that bothered with the FA cup this year and so didn't play his best team. So to play a better team in the Carling Cup next week would be very confusing.

No he never had the right to make that decision!

reason being, it wasnte a form choice or a horses for courses,

it had nothing to do with tactics, we play Watford away next week, so no need to save anyone really!
Bottom line it was a p1ss poor piece of management, not worthy of a proffesional manager of his calibre,

It was a massive game against a top side that we needed to make a statement against,
Do you think that result never gave Chelsea a boost for their coming visit or Arsenal a timely lift before tuesdays game and the fight for a top 3 finish?
That game had so many plusses if we had won it, that to play anything but our best side for such a stupid reason just leaves me totally fkn baffled.

I'm in the "shouldn't have made the promise in the first place" camp.  Maybe with the Carling Cup but never in a million years with the FA Cup...especially as holders.  Having said that, I'm glad he stuck to his word once the promise was made.  That's a gutsy move and shows the man's integrity.  Still, I hope he knocks promises like this on the head in the future...it'll only end in tears.

So Bob

Whatever spin we put on it
It was still very poor management at best, and Rafa should take that on board,
His unproffesional decision had a direct bearing on us losing a very important game that was ours to win on the night,

Im a Rafa fan, but I wont agree that this poor judgment is in any way defendable m8

The only promise Rafa should honor is his contract with LFC..

Always play your best side against top teams.
