Nah, thumbs down to that. we'll get short changed for our millions, for buying a 32 year old whos past the sell by date. you wont get much return for your money, as his knees will start packing in soon and he wont be able to run.

why dont we go for Eto'o or Seedorf, or Kaka.?

having said that, Rafa may not buy anything other than spanish!

I think it really depends on how much we need to spend. If we can get him on a free or really cheap, then i think we should go for it as he would be an awesome presence on the bench for us.

I agree, if it aint gonna cost us anything, we should deepen our squad and get some experience for our younglings. It wont hurtto deepen our squad, god knows how much we need it after a season like this one.

I think we should not get Vieri. He was very good in his younger years but those days have gone. We have a good manager to coach the younger ones. So, why don't we expose the youngsters more often. Unless we don't have any capable ones.

So then why did our manager get Pellegrino? He has past his prime also, why was there a need to bring him in other than to be a relief for Hyppia and Carra, and a mentor for those younger? Same goes for Vieri, if he is on the cheap and knows that he has to work hard to feature in a match, there is only incentive for the others to try and keep him out. A good squad is a deep squad.

Weather or not we go for Vieri we still need experience as I don't think you will win things will inexperienced players who aren't use to the presure, you only have to look at what we did when Gary Mc was in the squad in 00/01 season :)

Sometimes its a fine line between the experienced winning mentality and cruising on your final pay day.  Pellegrino as a defender and organiser will have a different approach to a striker.  Im not convinced that Vieri would be a good move and the last thing we would want is a pricey has been.

Nobody had a better attitude that Ian Rush, but talk to Newcastle and Leeds fans

I think more importantly is whether his style of play is suitable for us or not. Of course, age is important but if we are talking about using him mainly as a sub or start occasionally, he should be a fine fit. Although we have Nando but Vieri is different as he is more of a power forward with deadly shooting skill and can also hold the ball. You can simply ask yourself who do you prefer to have on the bench, Pongolle, Mellor or Vieri??? As most of our player is entering its prime, we need veteran who knows how to go to war. With a very formidable Midfield we have, the addition of Vieri would only enhance our chances provided we can get him cheap.

Agree with that but we have to be aware of the flip side that he might be past his best

sure, that is a flip side, but he is playing in the most defensive and strongest league in the world, and has been for sometime. Rivaldo couldnt break into it, and he struggled, whereas we would have been singing a different tune had he signed for us a while back. Sure he would have cost us a bit, but the league and club would have benefited from his experience. Now we have Vieri who has passed on a bit, not discluding some of our players, and I dont see it as a step forward, any team at the moment would benefit from having a starved striker playing team football playing every game like it was his last, than having a young potential world class individual who is soaking up all the club's cash, ALA Kewell andnot doing bugger all for the team and his own confidence. As Rafa says, a winning mentality is what is needed for our club, and if that means bringing in some experienced players to mould our younglings, so be it. IF THE PRICE IS RIGHT mind you, ive always stated that fact.

I dont disagree with your sentiment just Im not 100% about Vieri thats all.  I would have loved to have seen Rivaldo when he was linked with us as he would have taken on where Gary Mac left off.  But Morientes to me fits that role as senior striker with experience and the hunger.

What I think we need is a really hungry goalscorer, poacher type player.
