Cristian vieri - Linked with liverpool

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby el_stinger » Mon Mar 28, 2005 1:56 am

I'm amazed I havent seen anything on this forum about Vieri's link to Liverpool. I for one am a little concerned for us to be thinking of another proven striker, but with little time on his hands. I would like to see how he does in the Premiership, but with Cisse coming back, and Morientes up front, he might again be pi$$ed off at being second fiddle. Makes you wonder huh?

Reds in Vieri link

Atletico Madrid and Liverpool are believed to be pondering a shock move for Internazionale striker Christian Vieri.
Reports emanating from Italy suggest Liverpool are planning to meet Inter officials to discuss a possible transfer for Vieri.
The Italian international's future at Inter is shrouded in doubt after a disappointing season this term.
Vieri has struggled for form and he has been in and out of the team with Adriano and Obafemi Martins sometimes the preferred attacking pair of coach Roberto Mancini.
The 32-year-old' s former club Atletico Madrid are also thought to be keen on the striker's signature.
Vieri enjoyed a fine spell at Atletico during his one season in Spain before returning to Italy.
Liverpool and Atletico are both believed to be hoping to land Vieri on a cut-price deal as he only has one year to run on his current contract.
Both sides are set to keep tabs on Vieri's situation at Inter and they could make a move in the summer if they are given any encouragement from Inter.
However it remains to be seen whether or not Liverpool will be in the market for a striker having signed Fernando Morientes in January and club record signing Djibril Cisse poised to return to fitness next season.
Meanwhile, Liverpool midfielder Harry Kewell is being linked with a possible switch to Bayern Munich.
The German giants are on the lookout for a new left-sided winger with Ze Roberto set to depart in the summer.
Kewell's future at Anfield looks in doubt following a row with Rafa Benitez and The Reds could be willing to let him leave for the right offer.

No thanks. Liverpool isn't a retirement home for former greats who have long since had their best days. If you're looking for that try Bolton. :D

So you would like to keep buying multi million dollar flops, and tell the public they are the next Zidanes? OR do you want to get an established player, who plays in the best league in the world, and can cut it without a doubt in England, for the next 2-3 years while our younger players learn and develop from him? Dont forget, the guy was responsible for booting Baggio out of the Italian squad, OK he hasnt got a great record Internationally, but he was fantastic at Lazio and the start of his campaign at Inter. Give it a chance, dont bag it till you see the bigger picture. There is more to life than having Owen back.

This seems to be the same thing as us getting Rivaldo, remember? A past great who hasn't performed for years and pratically on there last legs in professional football, looking for there last big payday. The guy hasn't been the same in the last few years and with Fernando and Cisse he'd just be a spectator. Then fans would be saying why did we waste money on bringing him to the club.

I think it would be a mistake to bring him to the club, I'm sure Rafa's got better options somewhere anyway.

yeah i dont like these prima donna types.
i`m more interested in the fact that athletico madrid are supposedly in for him, maybe fernando torres is away in the summer?
he`s said he`d never sign for real madrid so we might be in with a chance with our spanish contingent. if we sell kewell and diouf etc we could get a few quid together.

yeah you could be right, i`m sure i remember gerry armstrong saying as much on the spanish footy on sky.
worth a try though, he might fancy a change of scene and there`s plenty of spanish players and staff to help him settle over here.

Vieri is past his best. We don't need him. Our priority should be defence anyway
