Are the team "soft"

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Yes, peewee. The dominant 1970s and the 1980s was based on our possession game and the ability to press the opposition. This similar strategy was also successfully employed by Aaragio Saatchi in the Milan teams which dominated Europe in the late 80s and early 90s.

Liverpool also used to be embody a never-say-die attitude allied to a winning mentality. The playing style of Emlyn Hughes, Kenny Dalglish, Graeme Souness et all embody this spitir. Sadly today, the Liverpool players give up the fight way too easily and seemed unable to concentrate for long enough to hold a slender lead or defend the goal. Today, this resillience is very much alive in manure and has been the bedrock of their football philosophy. They lacked the raw talent of Arsenal and they lacked the squad versatality of Chelski but they never give up and play as if their lives depend on winning.

So sad to see talented players like Kewell playing as if he is trying to fill out the 90 minutes. Only Carra has been consistently showing the grit, determination and commitment every time he plays. Even Gerrard fall into lapses of anonimity from time to time.

peewee mate, I lived in England over 2 spells.

First one from Sept 1975 to Aug 1977, when I & the whole famil;y followed my dad who did his post-graduate studies. That was when I fell in love with the mighty reds. Seeing Kevin Keegan running rings around the opposition was a fav past time. The highlight was when he gave the
German hound-dog of a defender Berti Vogts a real run around in his final game for Liverpool, the 1977 Euro Cup final. if KK was good, his replacement was devine...Kenny Dalglish.

Second spell in England wad from Sep 1988 to May 1993 when I myself went to study in Norwich and later in London. I witnessed the final stages of Kenny's reign, watched Liverpool twice at Carrow Road against Norwich and also saw Peter Beardsley put on a blistering individual performance against Notts Forest where Liverpool beat them 5-1. Also I watched with great dismay the decline of Liverpool under the mnanagement of one of my favourite ever Liverpool player, the irreplaceable guvnor Graeme Souness. Very sad...he was and still is never the manager as he was a player.

Once a red, always a red. you can never put that feeling away and you'd always support them through thick and thin. I don't have to be a scouser to be a genuine supporter.

Thanks for the compliment, mate. :D

Good point but i disagree to an extent.

Yes at times theres a lack of aggression, but its down to the management. Lets face it Gerrard and Carragher can be really physical if need be and aren't affraid to give an opponent a kick or two. Sami's the same. I Do feel though Sami seems to have lost weight. He doesn't seems as strong and as aggressive as he once was and these are the two things that seem to have got worse with age.

Riise and Finnan aren't scared off by tackles either, while neither are gonna win you every 50/50, they just seem to get on with it, if they lose out they av another go, if they get knocked over they're straight back up.

Baros is also a physical player.
