I don't understand how Lua Lua can win a header over Hyypia, Lua Lua is 2 foot tall FFS!

Just got back from Anfield, the match was ******, first half no one ran off the ball and they were just walking round, second half was better but as usual we couldn't kill the game

No I think this was the first time that we couldn't kill off the opposition at home. The amount of games we've played in a week must had some effect on the players.

So your trying to tell me that we have never had a problem killing off games and missing chances?  ???

As I said, Hyypia is starting to worry me. If he was up to his game, he would jump for the ball and beat LuaLua in the air and probably could have saved us the embarasment but sadly, he couldn't give a fu*k.

Just imagine if Yakubu was playing, probably the most under-rated strikers around. We could have been creamed.

Only if we had the money to make a big squad like Chelsea, Inter and AC Milan which are full of quality players then tiredness and injuries wouldn't be a problem.

The biggest culprit for that goal as far as I am concerned is Jossemi. Why does he always get drawn inside, he gave that guy so much space and time to deliver that cross/shot is was unbelievable.

On the question of the header, to be absolutely fair to Sami hieght is not the only variable when trying to win a header ( if it was then Peter Crouch would be a world-beater). It's all about balance, positioning, spring and strength. Now if a ball is hit long or crossed in then Sami has chance to manoevre his frame into pole position and win 90% of headers against the likes of Lua Lua. Unfortunately, when the ball balloons upwards with spin and swerve like it did last night its not so easy and becomes more of a lottery.
I'm not saying it was defended well by Sami, just that its unreasonable to expect the taller bloke to win every header. For me, our problem at the moment is at the other end in that we can't seem to land the killer blow.

Boocity i agree it was no surprise to me that the cross for there goal came from the left wing. Josemi is a liability, Finnan should play the full 90 mins at right back in every game. I undestand why Rafa bought off nunez at pushed Finnan forward but in hindsight perhaps if Finnan was at RB the cross/shot would maybe have not come in.Lets hope the lads re group and get fired up for newcastle as we need to win that game.

i agree very poor performance in first and second half just didnt want to show our goods ability to win. dudek is not to blame for the last minute goal.

josemi should not ogf been brought on in my opinion. we have now got to start playing real football, not skool kids footie.

risse should of played last night then maybe we would have had abetter chance.

I agree Mick. It wasn't as if the ball was coming down from the clouds when it landed to Lua Lua. Lua Lua is extremely agile and fast (he used to be a gymnast) and his finish was all about anticipation and speed. I think he would probably have beaten Ferdidand or Terry to that ball as well.

The silver lining to the terrible results of the last couple of days is that none of our rivals have pulled up any trees either. Amazingly, despite our shockingly inconsistant form and our relegation fodder away results, we are only 6 points away from Man UTD. Villa and Boro had an opportunity to pull away from us this weekend but didn't, and Bolton's real form is beginning to show. I still think that we and Newcastle will still be in the mix in April, and as things stand, as poor as we can be at times at the moment, I think that Newcastle have even more difficulties than us.

We lost an opportunity to make up lost ground but it must be remembered that we did not lose ground on our rivals this weekend (aside from Everton).

Looking back on it all when Cisse, Baros and Garcia all got injured within a few weeks of each other, we all looked at December with dread. I know the Olympiakos and Arsenal games gave everyone a huge boost, but our injuries have evened out the results for the end of November and start of December.

I think Newcastle is now a huge match, and while a draw would be disapointing it wouldn't be cataclysmic, but a loss would cause serious and genuine worries for us this season.

Why change your defence with a few minutes to go when you are hanging on to a one goal lead. I think the world of Rafa, and I'm convinced he is going to do the job, but in my opinion he made a mistake in bringing Josemi on.( and I said it to my mates at the time)  Finnan would never have allowed that cross to come in.

Josemi has cost us several goals this season because of his inability to pick up the wide man. He seems to get sucked into the middle all the time. He is one of a number of players who are simply not good enough.

Although we havn't seen much of him, I'm afraid that Nunez is going to fall into the same category.

We fans can afford to think of the picture this way. But if our team thinks likewise too, I had start worrying.

Judging from how we have been playing, winning would not have been a hinderance or a mountain to climb. Why so that we are not churning out the results that speaks of our improvement. We were really caught napping a few times already. The players need to wake up. They have yet proven themselves as top 5 in the league yet. Team spirit, concentration, winning mentality and consistency. We need all those back.

And just to point out the obvious:
15 points behind Chelski (out of the title race in Decembre again)
11 points behind Everton (the blueshite for gods sake!)
10 points behind Arsenal
6 behind the scum, who are probably laughing (6 points behind Champions league as well right now)
4 points behind Middlesboro (ahem, middleswho?)

This isn't good enough, not at all. I thought we had learnt how to handle the smaller clubs at Anfield now, but we were awful 1st half, and missed too many chances when they came, like usual.

man, its horrible reading that post!!

i dont like seeing the facts, quite scary. we've really got to get our finger out.
its not the chilli sauce on kebabs that give you ring-sting, its the actual meat. had one without chilli, and still had ring-sting. the chilli's only there to mask the nonsense they stuff inside that bread.

We have 10 away games left in the league this season. One is at Arsenal, where (being realistic) will be hard to win :( so say that leaves 9....

The lowest number of away wins registered in a Premiership season by a side finishing 4th place since 1993-1994 is 6.

We have won just once away so far....

So, to equal the LOWEST number of away wins for a 4th place finishing side, we'll need to win at least 5 of the remaining 10 away games. And that's just to equal the 6 away wins (the LOWEST number for a 4th placed finishing side)....

Interesting/worrying stat don't you think  ???
