Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Get back to the topic shall we?

Rafa's 4-5-1 formation at Valencia is successful because they have John Carew (1.95 m and well over 200 pounds) being able to hold on to the ball while his team mates joined in the attack. Also Valencia has a superb midfield to support the lone striker. While our midfield has potential, it isn't exactly kind of superb yet.

4-5-1 formation places a lot of emphasis on the lone striker up front being able to hold on to the ball. Players like Vieri, Adriano, Shearer, Van Nistelrooy, Viduka have some success on their own cuz they have the size and strength to hold off defenders.

Fielding Sinama Pongolle alone upfront is no good (as shown in the Birmingham match where he is shrugged off the ball by bigger sized defenders)

Hence we should field Mellor.....

I think Mellor deserves a start in first 11 and his goals in league cup against Boro wont have hurt his chances. While i rate Pongelle i see him more as the supporting striker and i expect he have a chance from the bench to impress sometime during the game

Well, this is the team i would play (pack the team with experienced players - apart from traore).

Boro's defence is pretty hard to break-down. I guess with more mobile players, it should be easier to...

                              Kirkland
                Finnan Carra   Hyppia  Traore
                Gerrard  Hamann Alonso Riise
                            Garcia Kewell

ok, heres my team that i would play. Can i also add that this sint the end of the world, we beat boro with our other team in the cup so this shouldnt be as bad as everyone says... but ehre we go

GK - Kirkland
RB - Josemi
CB - Carragher
CB - Hypia
LB - Traore

LM Finnan
CM - Alonso
CM - Gerrard
RM - Kewell (or Warnock, or risse!)

ATT - Garcia
ATT Mellor

Mellor has the confidence after his last two goals against this very same team. We can switch the right midfield between 3 very abled bodies. If stevie g cant play a whole match id stick biscan in the centre.

QWe also have pongolle and i really dont think its as much doom and gloom as everyone says. Its gonna be tough of course but if we go at them like we can down the wings then we should take all 3 points.

Its going to be a tough ask but i think  some of doom and gloom is little over the top but thats nothing new around here i suppose.
I still think we  still have a good chance of coming away with the points

Rafa has said Mellor is going to play.

Mellor and Kewell to score, plus one from Mid-field. Liverpool to win 3-2. Kewell to score first, get down to the Bookies now !!

I can see Biscan and Hamman starting, depending on score and how they are playing Gerrard and Xabi on the bench, tuesdays games to important. Xabi back just back from spain and Gerrard back from injury, maybe he will play them second half.
I would be suprised if they played the full 90 mins.
Biscan ripped boro to shreds the other week hope he does the same today
IGOR IGOR IGOR.

Boro are 4th we are 8th but only 2 points behind, if we win today and our game in hand things wont look so bad.
CMON YOU REDS.
We can beat boro without our 2 main strikers if our defence gets its act together and defend properly.
Pack the midfield with 5.
1 up front and Gerrard or Biscan bursting through

Rafa has confirmed that Gerrard will not start.

That mean either Garcia or Finnan will start on the right. Personaly I would go with Finnan because Middlesbrough are strong down the left hand side, and Garcia dosen't really know how to defend.

If we use Garcia off Mellor, that means one off Kewell,Riise or Troare will miss out.

Igor to score from Midfield, the third goal.

Cisse, I like your new Signature photo of Alonso's 'Armpit' and a view up his nose, very fetching. What is he doing, reaching up for a 'top shelf mag' ?

Anyways, like I said we're in the trenches now. Hindsight is a wonderful thing and the Riverside might be a shithole but I think a point would've been a good result.
