God damnit... I would love to play Riise in the middle.
Have been thinking he might be better in the middle.. maybe now Mr B can put him in the middle as one of the strikers.. hohoho. Christmas may come early for us.. It just might work. Cheers..............................................

Anyone else care to get any more pessamistic? Sure we have lost our two key strikers but this kind of ****** happens, it was bound to happen sooner or later.

Usualy Rafa plays with a 4-5-1 formation so it will either Garcia or Kewell or Mellor and Pongolle up front by themselves. Having Gerrard back will boost our attack as he can score himself and get other players to score from various areas on the pitch. He linked up very nicely with Mellor in the reserve match.

It's not the first time this kind of thing has happened and it won't be the last, its football, its part of the game. Players shouldn't play for their country if they are not fully fit and international competions are pretty pointless in my perspective. The only thing that International matches cause are injuries such as this one which bites the club the player is playing for in the ******.

By the way we are playing, I think we need to put someone upfront who could do the 'tap-ins' infront of the Goal. I think Mellor could do a good job here. We seem to have some good killer crosses from Riise and Josemi as well. With the return of Gerrard, I think there will be more scoring opportunities for Mellor, especially from rebounds and attempted saves from the goal keepers.

latest news is...

"Milan returned to (training ground) Melwood this afternoon (Thursday) and underwent a scan," a club spokesman said.

"Unfortunately that has shown a pull in the hamstring of his left leg and he is likely to be out for between three and four weeks.

It's gotta be Mellor. With all the injuries we've got if we don't give him a chance now we'll never give him one. He's 22, he's got to prove he's up to the job at this level or he's not. No point having him if we're not gonna throw him in and try him out. His confidence is up after the Carling Cup, it's the same team he's just scored two against, and let's be honest, Boro aren't a bad side but they ain't Chelsea or Arsenal.

If we snub him now it would look like the end of the road to him. Rafa seems happy to give the youngsters a crack - do it now, with Garcia tucked in behind him. Boro have two form wingers in Downing and Zenden, so we should play Finnan in front of Josemi and Riise in front of Traore to start with. Leave Kewell on the bench in case we need him later. Garcia has goals in him, so does Mellor. Gerrard and Alonso in the middle.

Kewell is not the solution and Mellor is not ready yet. Pongolle has not been setting the world on fire when given the chance. So now we have to rely even more on goals from midfield and on set pieces. As far as my footballing knowledge goes, Romario is out of contract and maybe we should try to sign him on a week to week basis until the others return? I know he is old, I know he is not a team player, but at least he is available NOW and without hamstring injuries and with no broken legs. It is a crisis at anfield, and we need to take desperate measures...

Romario?

I'll try and get him om Football Manager 2005.  Nice one, I'll let you know.

I think someone should eat humble pie at the club & bring back
Diouf. What is the point of putting most of our players out on loan when you get problems like this.

Mellor and Pongolle should be given the chance to start (TOGETHER). Afterall, Cisse and Baros were given plenty of chances.

Pongolle was impressive in the few matches he appeared for Liverpool last season and Mellor has done a spectaculr job in reserves' game and Cup games.

All these talk of bringing back the bloated Maradon, pot-bellied Romario and grandfather Pele is insulting to our reserve strikers. Those guys are not from this era.

By the way,
i would go for sinama up front, kewell just behind, nunez on the left, garcia on the right. kewell and garcia can comfortably switch roles giving defences a real headache. with stevie g and alonso (magnificent last night by all accounts) behind all that i think we can beat many teams.

That formation is good for attack. But defence? Stevie g is gonna get cramps trying to cover the defensive duties in midfield...
Just my opinion only.
