Klopp provides latest on Brewster and Oxlade-Chamberlain

Jürgen Klopp does not expect Rhian Brewster to be available again until pre-season but remains hopeful Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could feature in the current campaign.

Brewster has been sidelined for 12 months and is undergoing rehabilitation at Melwood, where the striker is part of the senior set-up.

The 18-year-old continues to take positive steps in his recovery from a serious ankle injury, though Klopp believes he will come back into contention in 2019-20.

Asked for an update on Brewster’s situation, the manager said on Friday: “[He is] not as far as he wants to be, for sure. But I saw him in the last hour, he was outside training.

“His running now looks much better since he had another little surgery. He is in a good way but that will take time, unfortunately. It’s no problem, he has the time.

“I would say we don’t have to think about him before pre-season.

“But he is in a really good way and the boy is in a good mood on top. We see him here every day, he is a nice fella and that’s all good.

“He is really integrated into the team but so far he couldn’t show that on the pitch. But our opinion about him will not change. We have to wait a little bit longer for him but that’s how life is sometimes.”

Oxlade-Chamberlain’s own recuperation from multiple ligament damage to the knee is on course, with Klopp buoyed by what he has seen from the Liverpool midfielder so far and hoping he will return to the pitch this term.

“He is closer than Rhian. He is on a very good way,” added the boss.

“But last time [I spoke about it] I think I put a bit of pressure on the medical department but when I see him running, moving with the ball and all the stuff – which he is all doing already – it looks really good, promising, close to a return.

“But, in the end, it’s so long out, [since] April against Roma – what a situation.

“It will be fine; it looks completely without any problems in the moment, no swellings anymore. He can really work already on his fitness issues, which he’s had for a long time. I think we will see him this season.”

From Klopp's press conference today:

- Trent, Henderson and Wijnaldum all trained yesterday.
- Lovren not available. Might be back for the Bayern game.
- Gomez surgery went well and he should be back playing in 4-6 weeks.

Gomez, Ox and Brewster are training but not match fit, and the latter two are unlikely to make a meaningful contribution this season, but I think we actually have an injury free squad right now. How often does that happen? Hopefully it will be a quiet end to the year for our medical team!

We all were hoping Ox would made a contribution but doesn't look likely now. Maybe a cameo here and there.

Liverpool U23s played Leicester on Sunday. Ox got 45 mins, Gomez 60, and Brewster 75. Another positive step for all three. Judging by the comments of people who watched the match it sounds like Brewster and Gomez looked sharp but Ox looked way off a first team return.

Surprised but delighted to see Ox get a run out on friday. Honestly though we wouldn't see the fella until the pre season stuff began. Seems he's mended and it's now all about match fitness.

The squad looks to be in good condition with just three players a minor doubt for our next match.

Firmino, Fabinho and Lalanna.

From Klopps press conference today:

Keita and Milner out for Spurs and Utd- no time frame on return.

Matip was back in training this week but not full training

Lovren and Fab back in full training next week but might be too soon to return for Utd.

So this seems to be the latest:

- Henderson joined up with the England squad so is available again.
- Konate due to start full training again next week.
- Klopp said in his Ajax press conference that he expects Robertson back after the international break and Keita in October.
- Kelleher and Ramsay probably not far off as they were recently doing some work outdoors.
- Ox and Jones still a bit unclear.

Konate and Henderson back as Liverpool's injury crisis eases, but Robertson set to miss Brighton game

WHAT'S HAPPENING? Konate is back in full training after missing the last two months with a knee issue, and will be available for selection against Brighton this weekend, while Henderson is fit after returning from a hamstring problem with England during the recent international break.

THE BIGGER PICTURE: Jurgen Klopp's squad has been decimated by injuries during the early part of the season, but the situation looks to be easing significantly, with Thiago Alcantara, Joel Matip and Diogo Jota all returning prior to the international break. Curtis Jones and Calvin Ramsay are also understood to be closing on a return after lengthy absences.

AND WHAT'S MORE: Andy Robertson, though, is set to miss Saturday's game with Brighton, having failed to recover from a knee injury sustained against Napoli earlier this month. Kostas Tsimikas will continue to deputise at left-back in his absence. Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, meanwhile, are not due back until mid-October at the earliest.

DID YOU KNOW? Konate has only been on the losing side once in 29 competitive appearances for Liverpool - and that was the defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League final in May.

THE VERDICT: Liverpool should look a whole lot more familiar in the coming weeks, with key players back at a crucial stage of the season. Konate, don't forget, started two of the Reds' three cup finals last season, and his pace and strength are huge in enabling Klopp's side to play their high defensive line. October is a massive month, which will tell us much about this team's ambitions this season. Having as many players fit and available as possible could be key. If they are to get their campaign up and running, this is the time.

WHAT NEXT FOR LIVERPOOL? The Reds welcome Brighton to Anfield on Saturday (3pm UK time) before taking on Rangers in the Champions League next Tuesday (8pm UK time).

According to Jurgen we should have Jota, Firmino, van Djik, and Arthur back in the training in the next few weeks.
