below i have posted a part of the tribute to John from Nicky Campbell. Nuff Said

"The Monday evening show the weekend after the Hillsborough tragedy was a piece of broadcasting I'll never forget.

He said nothing at the start of his show. He just played a record. A long slow record. It was Aretha Franklin's heart breaking gospel version of You'll Never Walk Alone.

I looked through the glass from my adjacent studio and John was just weeping. Silently. So were all of us - his listeners. Nothing more needed to be said."

a true legend when legend is a word that is used far too often. just did things the way he wanted as you could tell by listening to his fantastically easy going and warm persona. a champion of new music and also a dedicated red. one of my close mates knew him well and is absolutely devastated as he says he was one of the best guys you will ever meet, not just a knowlegable and comforting uncle like voice.

RIP YNWA

(rumour is radio 1 were gonna switch him to 1am slot.............idiots) :( :( :(

From the Daily Post :
Millwall 0, Liverpool 3 (D,Post) Oct 27 2004

By Andy Hunter at The Den

THEY played Teenage Kicks in tribute to the late, great John Peel before last night's Carling Cup clash at Millwall.

His favourite song was an appropriate anthem for what followed from his beloved Liverpool but perhaps The Kids Are Alright was ultimately more accurate as Rafael Benitez's young, inexperienced team emerged from an appalling night in south London with reputations and experience enhanced.

Nice touch from Millwall FC.

I'm sure gonna miss the festive 50 this year.

I hope John is still doing what he does best, wherever he is now.

When the routine bites hard
and ambitions are low
And the resentment rides high
but emotions won't grow
And we're changing our ways,
taking different roads
Then love, love will tear us apart
again

Why is the bedroom so cold
Turned away on your side?
Is my timing that flawed,
our respect run so dry?
Yet there's still this appeal
That we've kept through
our lives
Love, love will tear us apart again

Do you cry out in your sleep
All my failings expose?
Get a taste in my mouth
As desperation takes hold
Is it something so good
Just can't function no more?
When love, love will tear us apart
again

RIP - John Peel. :(
The man who came to merseyside from Newcastle, the man who says he's part of Liverpool as much as the Liver building. When he was needed Alan Kennedy was there. And with now just 8 minutes to go it could be that Alan Kennedy has made a little history.

Before I go, I had to comment on this.

First off RIP John Peel.

Secondly the song was palyed at the request of Millwall fans and some of us even took copies of the song to the ground to ensure it was played.
