Phil McNulty ‏@philmcnulty

Brendan Rodgers asked would he have let Carroll go if he knew Liverpool would not sign anyone: "No." Was he confident he would: "Very."

a genuine q i want to ask rogers is why do we choose to leave to the last min to address our main concern since last season which is a lack of attacking option.
why do we choose to leave to the last min to sign a striker?

The trouble with this is that there was only a day left in which to do our business and we were f'ucked if we let Carroll go without signing a replacement. Those circumstance meant that we couldn't afford to simply be "very confident" of signing a replacement; we needed to be as close to absolute certainty of doing so or we would be screwed. The problem is that you can never be certain of signing any player, especially with so little time left to run and when your room for manouvre in the negotiations is so contrained by other clubs knowing that you are desperate to sign their player. It's a question of risk and we shouldn't have risked it.

Id like to know that too but I'm sure he would have made known his targets in good time. It was up to Ayre or whoever to do the negotiating. Do you not think the manager would have liked to have a full squad in time for the start of the season?

Well if anything this season will be  a lesson to the owners to not fk about with transfer targets. There is always January but god knows where we will be by then.

whoever responsible for the failed dempsey negotiation should be shot. apparently there was a disagreement over 2m.
and our season is hanging over the cliff becoz of this 2m. what a joke.

if we can spend over 5m to bring sahin over our already crowded midfield, we cant spend the same amount in the depleted striker department? rogers got to get his priority right. and not try to squeeze every KD signings out the door regardless of merits.

is borini an upgrade over bellers ? or downing ? i seriously doubt that.

Dont have any sympathy for the manager in the transfer window. He has had all summer.
Why leave it till the last day!?

How can you be certain it's 100% down to the manager and not the owners or Ayre?

Some fans think they know it all, so easy to judge from behind the pc.

C'mon. When BR was asked today if he felt dissapointed or let down even he didn't say no.
He said:

It doesn't matter, I've got the players I've got. He got ******, simple as.

January is too late for this season, and its usually a bad time to do business.

Controversial as it may seem but I think we should make a move for Owen. Despite his history, he is a short term solution that would be more effective than Borini or Suarez at the moment. We need a clinical right now.
