It has been really frustrating watching the way L'pool played last season where most of the offensive fizzles out in the middle of the field and, I believe that's where it led to the long ball situation, in the hope of getting a lucky break. It was proven successful in 2001-2002 season but not a long term solution. No disrespect to DM and SG, both are quality players, but somehow there's a missing link in the middle of the park and we may need one, better still two world class midfielders to link the defense and attack. Not sure where we are going to get the funds but Mr. Parry will have to figure that out. The defense and attack came under heavy criticism last season but I don't see anything wrong in them where the former was overworked due to the ineffective defensive play by the midfielders while the forwards were starved of supply. We'll need someone in the mould of Pablo Aimar whom has the vision for a killer pass and to defend effectively.

Your opinion pls.

I agree with what your saying about last seasons performances and it was frustrating to say the least seeing us resort to long-ball tactics. The midfield did look clueless at times especially at home when teams sat back and we were asked to attack them, which is why i think Kewell is the signing we needed and will give us that sharpness of creativity we were lacking, whether he sits in midfield or goes wide he is the player that will draw out defences and make space for the strikers. He has the ability to win games on his own but with a player like that you need players in midfield who can win the ball for him or provide the key passes which we have in Gerrard and Hamann. I also agree Pablo Aimar is a world-class player but i can't see where he would fit into our team, he would be another luxury player and i'm not too sure if you give him a free role in midfield with Kewell there aswell, plus he would cost well over £10m which could be spent more wisely.

if you play eight at the back and two strikers long ball is the only way to go.  Our center mids are just as good as keane and butt, speed and dyer, lampard and petit, but they are played in a completely different way.  if we start to use our midfield for more than just defending we could be really good.

I hope we see a different cheyrou this season cus he has potential, hes a bit of a pussy.....but he has potential.
