He probably will for the first couple of seasons until he develops a team of his own. However I would fully expect him to start bringing in his own players as soon as possible and I'd imagine he'd want the team to play his way and he'll be looking to develop players to think and perform the way he wants them too which can only be a good thing.

It's what he gets paid the big bucks to do and he has the chance to put his stamp on things

I'm also all for phasing out the old guard like Gerrard and Carragher over the next few years. 32 and 34 is their ages, they are knocking on the door of retirement and Rodgers should be looking at replacing these two players in the next year or so.

I want Rodgers to get the balling rolling as soon as possible and I hope he starts making the much needed changes. IMO a striker is of vital importance, so is a midfielder who can control the tempo, who can make things happen in the middle. If we get those two areas sorted then we'll score a lot more goals next season.

I'll be interested to see what happens with Carroll. I really like the big lad, but if Rodgers is looking for a high-tempo, high pressing, ball retention game which is full of attacking flare with tactical discipline, then I fail to see where Carroll will feature in all of this.

you cant really blame aquilani wanting to go back home considering the way he was treated at the club by successive managers but i think he might come back if he thought he was the type of player the new manager wants to build his side around. i`ve read a few of his interviews and he has said he`d consider coming back if he thought he was going to be a regular starter but he doesnt want to come back and sit on the bench.

i think another couple of factors may come into play here, if he does see out his contract here he will be able to command big wages at the next club he moves to plus the italian league is in turmoil over another match fixing scandal so he might want to come here for a season to let them get their house in order again.
there`s talk of suspending games for a few months next season and all sorts of proposals like players going on strike etc so he may think a season in england at this time is a good idea.

How exactly did Kenny treat him bad ?

He played him in every pre season game but Aquilani left the first chance he had .

Forums have had the same conversation for the previous two summers in regards Aquilani with people stating this is his chance etc etc only for him to leave the first chance he gets. He IMO doesn't want to be in the prem because he didn't settle from day one - neither him or his family . It's time to cut him loss once and for all. He hasn't been a Liverpool player for 2 years now .

20 mil fee 80 grand a week wages for a total of 8 games.

Plus the guy is as injury prone as Aurelio - give him a free transfer and get Siguardsson

kenny went out and signed jordan henderson and charlie adam in the summer, what signals does that send to you as a centre mid?
no wonder the lad wanted to go back to italy.
funny you mention pre season because how great did aquilani look in pre season? he looked the best player at the club.

aquilani is exactly the type of player rodgers is looking for, he`s never really been given a chance here because the managers we`ve had have wanted a different kind of centre mid but rodgers is different, he doesnt just like that aquilani type of player he wants to build a team around them. i think aquilani struggled to settle in england because he felt like he wasnt wanted, he might feel a bit different after rodgers has explained his philosophy to albert.

I don't think Aquilani fitted in at Liverpool over the period after Rafa left because of the switch under Hodgson/Kenny back to 4-4-2 physically the premiership doesn't suit Aquilani and with his past ankle problems this isn't a surprise.

If Brendan is planning on finding a role for Aquilani in the squad/team then it would have to be in some games playing 4-3-3, 4-3-1-2 or as a link player behind the strikers. He could possibly do the role that Gerrard did so well in 08-09 behind Suarez but that would make including Carroll and Downing difficult if not impossible.

I suspect that if Brendan does see Aquilani in his long term plans going forward that Spearing even though he is a defensive midfielder is probably on the way out.

So he couldn't handle competition at the club and left the first chance he had ? What does that say about the player ? No heart or desire to fight for a place. Yet he seemed to be ok with going to AC Milan whose team were full of CM's !!!

Also ask yourself why he played so well pre season ? Playing for a move home pre chance ?

I would give Aquilani a season here to see what he can do, if he doesn't deliver or wants to go home then sell him or loan him out and then release him on a free transfer.

My bad, I thought I read somewhere else that someone said Aquilani along with Cole have two years on their current contracts left to run.

That is the best course - we will sell for a couple mil and finally wipe our hands clean of his wage .

Cole IMO will go back to Lille

I don't know about Cole going back I get the impression he thinks he has unfinished business at Anfield. Brendan knows him from Chelsea maybe he has something still to prove and might be the option we're looking for in centre mid which could give us even more options even if we do get Sigurdsson.

as friendlyguy33 has pointed out aquilani could see that the club under roy and then kenny were going for a more robust approach in centre mid, the 2 summer signings (both british centre mids) told him where he stood at the club. you say why didnt he stay and fight for his place but alonso went on the back of just a proposed signing.
