Agreed Martinez is a big gamble. But let's just get behind the man IF he does get appointed.

I'm tired of seeing us constantly distrusting the manager and deeming them too inexperienced/poor for Liverpool even before they've joined.

A lot of good clubs have recently appointed inexperienced young managers that have gone on to do very well. And this chap seems to have the right philosophy unlike other lower club managers like Hodgson etc.

I'm certain the next season is going to be a difficult one but I have a gut feeling that we'll be turning it around in 3-4 years' time for the good with Martinez.

You think he would get 3 years to get it right?

Unless the football was dire, then FSG are going to have to show patience. Whoever they finally settle on will need that sort of time, I think.

kenny has steadied the ship, trophy in the cabinet, semi final of the FA cup - he's done a good job after all that we've been through in the last few years.

BUT for me Liverpool is all about winning the league. Consistency is again lacking (has been for 20 years) and unfortunately we havent made the progress that I would have liked. we've also spent a lot of money.

I voted yes. think Kenny is a LEGEND but I now think we need a change. Weve tried promoting from within(Evans), experienced(Hodgson, Kenny), european(Benitez), former player (Souness).     

Personally I would go for a young hungry manager - Wigans Roberto Martinez. Brendan Rogers at Swansea is getting all the plaudits there for their style of play and performances against the big teams BUT it was Martinez who set up their style of play and was instrumental in developing their young players. When interviewed he talks a lot of sense never slags off the referees, gives an honest appraisal of his teams performance.   Wigan arn't the best team in the world but you can see that he is trying to get his players to play his style - keep the ball and pass and move. the Liverpool of old. That style of play with the better players would be exciting.  He also knows the spanish league well might pick up a few bargains!




Posted this a few months ago before Wigan started winning games !! think I'm the only one happy that Martinez might have been offered the job.  Sometimes in football you have to take a chance.

I hope your right but if we are not in the champs league in 2 years who ever is boss is in big trouble. Fsg have shown they will pull the trigger when ever they see fit regardless of what people think.

lets look at some of the positives-

his sides knock the ball around and are very attacking
he`s good with the media
he comes across as a likeable fella, that will help avoid going down the same road as roy who didnt connect with the fans whatsoever.
he`s a very bright fella who speaks great english
he`s spanish so he wont have that `engurlund` mentality and foreign players (especially spaniards and south americans) will feel more at home at the club.
apparently he`s very good on the theoretical side of the game (finding solutions to tactical problems etc.....on paper he is anyway!)
any more?

I also think he knows how to develop players well and work on absolutely no budget (or negative budget) for that matter. A lot of swansea fans are saying online that Brendan won't be a good fit for Liverpool because he doesn't know how to develop a team, and the major work was really done by Martinez.

What Martinez was able to do was to take a Swansea side, promote them to the Championship first, and then almost promote them to the premiership (lost in the playoffs to Blackpool), all this while playing a good brand of football. That's not an easy thing to do at all and requires a good acumen of selecting the right players and getting the tactics right.

he wont get 3 or 4 years mate, he wont even get to christmas if the results are poor early on in the season.
the fans arent happy dalglish went, they are even less happy that he is being replaced by a perennial relegation battler, there`s a lot of grumbling about FSG at the moment and if martinez has a bad start the fans will be up in arms imo.
the atmosphere is very similar to when roy took charge.
he just needs a good start, a good start will get everyone onside again, it`s amazing how wins can put a smile on everyones face.

If they guy is appointed with time in the transfer window we will successful next year

its definitely a gamble and given the choice, personally I'd rather have kept Kenny on. Bobby and Rafa are mates and he's aalways come across as one of those managers I can respect. He hasn't pulled up any trees with Wigan nor was he expected to - the fact he's been pretty free of expectation worries me, so does the fact that he's never worked with a top club or has a significant transfer kitty to play with - the fact he's done well with very little sn't an indicator of anything imo. Managing LFC will be a completely different ball game.

Despite those concerns I'll approach the new season with optimism and excitement, he's young and certainly not a bad manager, whoever gets the keys to the Anfield engine room 100% has my backing

I just can't understand why Liverpool don't hire someone like Capello or Benitez. You know that either one of them would get us back into the Champions League. But instead FSG (knows nothing about football) want to take a huge gamble and hire Martinez. The fact is that Liverpool will be average under Martinez. You can romanticize all you want, but I guarantee you that he will not get us back into the Champions League. We'll be there or there about, but end up finishing between 5th-7th a couple of times before he gets the sack. By that time with the loss of revenue, Liverpool will be well and truly fooked!

oh he wants to avoid kissing fergusons @rse as well, roy infuriated the fans by letting ferguson call torres a diver in a game where nani should have got an oscar for his antics, he let ferguson walk all over him and the club.
i know martinez is pally with ferguson but at least in public anyway he`s got to be prepared to stand up to him.
it`s the small things like that that build a relationship with the fans

so as it stands we have made him an offer and now he gets to take a few days and think about it.it fooking baffles me that does as its the liverpool job ffs and he is a no mark who has been giving a golden opportunity and yet he has to think about it. .
we were never ever looking for anyone else imo and this whole process is a shambles.

Wasn't very impressed when Martinez was linked with the job.
Wanted Kenny to stay but think that was only down to his legendary status.
The owners are not ignorant and they will pick who they and there team think is the best person to push the club forward.
He could potentially be our manager for the next 20 plus years.
Only potential problem i see is Roberto may not have the respect of potential top signings and possibly a couple of existing players due to his standing in the game at the moment.
IF he gets the job I and most others will back him to the hilt and it may be the best move within the club within the last 20 years.
