I'm very disapointed with some of you already slagging off Martinez even before he's been offered the job. If he does get offered the job, and I personally really hope so, I expect you all to show him the same famous Liverpool loyalty and support which you have all been shwoing towards Kenny, if not you're all a bunch of f*cking hypocrites!

No doubt Martinez will be chomping at the bit to get away
from Whelan now the way hes conducted himself this week.

This kind of thing is meant to be under wraps until clubs
and individuals have agreed a deal and at this rate Fenway
may as well call just call Sky after ringing Martinez and beat

Well unfortunatly we have no say in the appointment. And Roberto Martinez is a decent guy, and probably a great potential manager. But I dont think Liverpool should be taking a risk with a succesfull relegation battler. We should be appointing top class pedigree if we wanna compete.

The Mancs and others must be giggling to themselves the prospect of us taking such a gamble (IF IT IS TO BE HIM APOINTED).

I gaurentee you Chelsea will appoint a top range, high profile manager this summer.

Kenny got famous Liverpool loyalty and support because he was a popular apppointment. But unfortunatly he had a topsy Turvy first seaon, getting us to 2 cup finals, but way below expectations in the league.
1 year was not enough to judge him on, and imo, i'd have left Kenny in the dugout for at least 1 more season before appointing a rookie in Martinez.

No poijnt in really debating any further, as Martinez may not be appointed after all.

Wait and see.

But I aint a hypocrite, as are the majority are not hypocrites on here imo.

Not sure about Martinez... Rafa may not be the best candidate that's available... but surely he has alot more pedigree than Martinez??

It’s been a while since I posted on here, but I figured I should add my two cents. Personally, I think Roberto Martinez is a TERRIBLE choice to be the next manager of Liverpool! I’m surprised there’s not more of an outcry about the possibility of him replacing Kenny Dalglish. Does anyone think he’s actually better than Dalglish? At least Dalglish has a proven record whereas Martinez does not. I’m also shocked by the positive press coverage he’s received! And for what reason? Is it because he starved off relegation for a third year in a row by unexpectedly winning a few games at the end of the season? Oh, wow!!! Or is it to do with all that attractive football Wigan played last season that we suddenly keep hearing about?

The reality is that FSG has no clue what it's doing and is seemingly basing the decision on the flavour of the month (Martinez), much in the same way Hicks/Gillette did with Hodgson. Had it been three months ago, Martinez’s name would never have been mentioned! Why? Because he was doing so poorly that Wigan fans were calling for his head. Ok, he may have turned it around, but to be one of the leading candidates for Liverpool is extremely worrisome. This is not the time to a take risk on hiring an inexperienced manager. In fact, it would be extremely dangerous to do so given the circumstances we’re in (3 years without Champions League football). I mean here is a 38 year-old manager who has no top level/club experience, never won anything of significance, and whose record (win %) is actually worse than that of his predecessors  (Rogers, Bruce, Jewell) at the clubs he’s managed. Do you think the press would be so positively optimistic about Bruce and Jewell if they were in the running? I don’t think so! I’m sorry but I can’t help feel pessimistic about the very real possibility of him being our next manager. It feels like Hicks/Gillett, and Hodgson all over again.

He’s a nice guy, done well enough for Wigan but that doesn’t mean he’s good enough to be the next Liverpool manager. We’re looking to get back into the Champions League, so why are we looking at someone who has no experience at doing that? I keep hearing about the attractive football Wigan play, but it doesn’t matter if you never win! I mean the man is use to losing more than he is winning, so why is he suddenly qualified/capable of putting us back into the Champions League? The next Liverpool manager needs to have a proven track record of winning and he doesn’t. If he does become manager I honestly see us qualifying for the Europa League the next two seasons before he gets the boot. Martinez=Champions League qualification? Based on his record, I don’t think so!!! Martinez maybe up and coming, but he’s not there yet. Liverpool, ultimately, need a manager who is capable of challenging for the league in the next two years, so why take the risk on someone who is unproven. We took a risk on Hodgson, lets not do it again with Martinez.

Barcelona would never appoint someone with such little mgt experience ..oh sorry they just have!!

Yes I would like an A-list mgr but that isn't going to happen, however I do believe Martinez will get the team to want to play for him and in a style we will want to watch. I never figured he could be our future mgr however I have always thought he comes across very well in interviews and gets his team playing for him, personally I don't think he will do worse than Dalglish or Woy and after a years more experience what's to say he doesn't surprise us all.

I won't be disappointed with Martinez but I would have been with Rogers or AVB.

If its Martinez then fair enough and you have to accept Fenways decision.

What people sometimes fail to see is that when you are choosing a manager
its not all about previous record and much is based on chemistry and if that
individual has the skills and fits into the ideas you want to implement at the
football club.

They could potentially hire a guy with a string of achievements but you sit
down and chat and think hell no, that wont work, dont like him, and back off.

Hes not accepted yet and to be honest I find that unusual, and so clearly doubt
in his mind about something there so we will have to see what happens.

I mean not sure where he thinks he will get a better job than Liverpool, and after
turning down Villa last year you wonder if hes just not got the bottle so much as
thinking he will wait for another chance.

martinez could well turn out to be a great manager but i think it`s a huge gamble by the club, i couldnt see united, chelsea, city, arsenal or even spurs appointing him if any of their managers left.
after finishing 6th, 7th and 8th in our last 3 seasons i personally dont think appointing a perennial relegation battler sends out the right signals.
if this was happening at say chelsea (the progressively worse finishes coupled with appointing the wigan manager) i wouldnt be thinking abramovitch is setting up a brand new dawn at chelsea i`d be saying he`s got bored of the club and he`s put it into managed decline mode.
obviously our owners are desperate for CL footy so thats not the case but from the outside the perception must be that we are on the slide.
i just hope our owners havent fell for the current flavour of the month.

Christ heimdall, would you lighten up. If we want to make jokes then let us, if you cant see the funny side of some of the posts then do you realy have to come on and tell us all off?  What kind of a buzz kill are you at all?  I can imagine you now down in the pub sitting in the corner giving everyone the evils for having a good time.  If you cant laugh at yourself then who can you laugh at?

And why would you assume that whoever becomes our next manager they wont be suported?  Whoever gets the job will get the backing that they deserve.  Club legends like Kenny Dalglish will always always always be shown far more loyalty and support than someone who has yet to prove themselves. This will be the case for any club anywhere in the world. A new manager will be supported until he has proven that he can or cant do the job and if he meets the fans expectations then he will be given the loyalty.
