Andy Carroll signs for West Ham

The Premiership - General Discussion

Lets say Caroll is worth 50% of his fee, 17.5 million. Torres isn't worth 50% though at 25 million, you really would struggle to top 20 today. 15-18 ok, 22 is too much. 20 at a pinch.

It wouldnt end up like that at all.

We got 50 for torres

Spent 35 on Carroll,(lets say)

We get(lets say) 15 mill selling carroll

Thats a profit of 30 million. It has been less wages than Torres  for the year and Carroll has more goals than Torres since. Not that bad of business to be honest. We spent 22 on Suarez so that steal almost cancels out misvalue of the Caroll deal.

It would mean that Torres deal woud only be effectively be worth 30 mill. But in its own right that is a good bit of business now.

If any one of the other top clubs in the world lost 20 million (and it is a loss i dont care what way you cut it. We dont have the money anymore so we lost it)

We would be laughing our asses off right now. If he is sold then people need looking at that allowed this transfer to happen in the first place.

A last ditch deadline day panic buy of a player with known personal problems at a fee twice of what he was worth.

Probably the worst bit of transfer dealing since someone came in and said "Screw Anelka ive seen this other lad thats much better"

With any luck we will keep him

Raven - you're absolutely right. How ever anybody wants to spin it if we sell Carroll for less than we have paid for him then we have made a loss. The Carroll and Torres deals were completely separate and cannot sensibly be looked at in any other way.

Carroll can certainly improve from where he is today. He is reasonably young and his future value can be potentially greater than the £15m that is being muted today. We took a risk buying him at £35m. Selling him at £15m would be an even bigger risk!
Net Spend Over The Last 5 Years 20/21 to 24/25  (10 years
are in brackets 15/16 to 24/25 )
LFC €300m (€420m)
Everton +€33m (€211m)
Arsenal €557m (€853m)
Spurs €571m (€684m)
Chelsea €945m (€1051m)
Man City €370m (€1038m)
Man United €687m (€1240m)

He is going nowhere in Jan.  Just because Newcastle said they would pay £15 mill for him it doesnt mean Liverpool are willing to sell him.

Of course Newcastle would offer £15 mill, hw scored shed loads of goals for them and suits there style of play.  They would have received 20 mill for loaning him to us for a season.

Joke report by lazy journos who are all on a mission to unsettle our club
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

1. Where has the story come from?
2. Who gives a fu'ck?

Haha Carroll is going nowhere.
Maybe he will be assessed at the end of the season, but even then...?
This is the usual sh'ite "journalism" that we are used to nowadays with southern based "reporters" telling us whats going on because theyve got their "finger on the pulse".
Theyve shown their true colours with the Suarez affair and as far as Im concerned are as believable and knowledgable as the FA

they always stick the ball into him up high, as shown in his last game he can also use his feet. i dont think in any game he has had for us he has been able to have a clear head to the ball, its always stuck into him when there 3 players on him.

i dont think he is a bad player, we just need to use him better.

You being sarcastic?

If not and that was a serious comment, pointing out that he scored his first goal in 11 games as some sort of "rest my case".. thats a pretty weak case.

It was a sweet strike yes, and when he swings his left and connects properly (and its on target) it will trouble the goalkeeper. However his accuracy is often wayward, and its an instinctive strike without deliberate precision. Hes done it a grand total of three times since hes been here.. Man City, Exeter, Oldham.

Now thats just his finishing (which altho average is actually his strongest point).. his general play outfield is conference standard. As Glenn Roeder stated his positional play, touch, control isn't good.... therefore hes never involved in the build up (we have one passer less in attack).

The papers today linking him with a 10-15 million pound move back are not a surprise, but no way can we do business at this point. I would keep Carroll as a back up (like we used him against Oldham) until the end of the season... and if hes still showing nothing then loan him for a season to a direct side (such as stoke) that keep it in the air and play to his limitations, and will possibly get his value up around the 15-18m mark.

The Man City games are our biggest of the season imo, they are what stops us from getting to the new wembley (and a Cup), and if Andy Carroll is ever going to deliver anything for us then now is the time.

Will you stop quoting Glenn Roeder as if he is the fountain of all football knowledge - he was awful as a manager , absolutely awful, any credibility you have disappears as soon as you use Roeder as a back up for your opinion.

he has a cracking left foot when he can be bothered to use it. The raw talent is there, the issue is simply whether he can develop and apply himself more

Can I ask you honeybun, how many goals has he scored for us with his head? And how many with his feet?

hmmm...i dont think u understand the concept of profit.
your so called 30m profit did not factor in the 20m we've paid to A.madrid for torres.

agreed with you that signing Suarez on the cheap helped ease the pain.
or to be more concise, we signed Enrique for 8m when he easily cost 15m. we have saved 7m here, we overpaid 20m for Carroll so we are still down 13m.
to break even we have to rob barcodes for more of their talents.
i will say no to torres, his heart isnt here, his mind isnt here. signing him back will be a disaster.
