When Torres was scoring for fun Dirk was heavily involved in a lot of the goals.

Its an Andy Carroll thread so its hardly gonna have much positivity in it. Look at the opening page (before he even kicked a ball) and there has been nothing since.

Regarding Kuyt.. his main attribute was his workrate and tireless running.. but even that has largely gone now. Kuyt is not a right midfielder.. he was moved out there as he wasnt doing it upfront, but he was deemed useful to the team due to the workrate/running i mentioned. I dont recall any passes that cut open a defence, i dont recall any dribbles past a player, Dirk doesnt have these qualities that a player in right midfield should have. Hes a guy that works his backside off, keeps it simple (tho his touch often lets him down, as it did last night prior to Agueros shot) so i would never criticise his effort or his commitment. No one has looked at the right midfield position over the last five years and thought...'well thats that sorted'. The last time that area of the field was good was when Gerrard played out there. I actually liked Dirk best at the tail end of last season when he played more centrally.. just off Suarez and Maxi. There was a great understanding there.

Really good stuff about Kuyt and I don't thinks I would disagree with any of it.

Give Andy a break though. I think he is going to do a Lucas and is in desperate need of our support! I'm not a fan but I'll give him until the end of the season. The next few weeks without Luis are going to be interesting.

Cant see us loaning him out, Kenny will give him at least till the end of the season to prove himself, and probably longer.

I do think we will bring in a different kind of striker in this transfer window, just not sure who it will be

Was listening to John Anderson (ex-Toon) on the radio this evening and they rate getting rid of him as a good piece of business. Can't see that he's get a game for them now anyway....they're playing good footie tonight...

Demba Ba - they got him on a free ffs !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ironically he looked worth £35m last night. I've just looked at his goal scoring stats and this season is no flash in the pan. Newcastle are going to have real problems during the African Nations Cup losing Ba and Tiote. Is this a key reason why we ignore such talented players or our are scouts incapable of finding them?

He has failed two medicals - his knee's are :censored: and he is a walking timebomb. Newcastle took a big risk on him

Our scouting system appears to be a case of watching match of the day and signing whoever is first name on the teamsheet at mid/lower prem sides.

And we took an even bigger one but are £35m worse off !!!!! Sometimes in life you have to take calculated risks and Ba on a free with dodgy knees was well worth taking.

I want to believe this  :(
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

The problem with Carroll is that he offers us very little if he isnt scoring.  Kuyt always worked really hard and gave 100%, Heskey was a great partner for Owen, Crouch held the ball up and brought others into play, Suarez gets assists.. win free kicks and corners etc from taking players on.

With Andy, I just don't really see what he adds to the team.

I want us to find the next Owen/Fowler/Hunt/Daglish or Aldridge. Why don't we give Raheem Stirling a go for example?

no doubt some fans will be heading back tonight after that moaning about how he missed that sitter of a header instead of praising his goal which was a rocket. it reminded me a lot of his first ever goal for us against man city in that he didn't even think about it. it was instinctive. hopefully that will give him some confidence now.
