There were groans tonight when he missplaced a simple pass.. he is so basic its frightening. Among the worst things i noticed tonight... midway through the first half he passed the ball to Johnson (in midfield) and then turned (slowly as he does) his back on play and jogged up to the penalty box. He wants no part in the build up of play.. "just launch it up to me when i get into the box". This hoofball that caters to the big fella (that Newcastle ended when he left) will drag us down. A pass and move possession game of incisive build up, and interchanging of play... this is alien to his basic "on me head son" which is why we deteriorate when he is on the field. So basically we have to sacrifice everything that makes us good (the performance at Fulham last season).. abandon that, and play a direct hoofball game that wins nothing. Quality teams, such as Spurs who have done so twice against this, will pass us to death.

I don't mind you singling Carrol out but at least be honest with yourself. We played almost half the games with out Andy and were just as poor in finishing as with him. Yes he cost us 35m but how much did Adam+Hendo+Downing cost us? Around 45m ,and are they playing well? Get my drift? Yes those players are still long way from being on form but focusing on Carrol is starting to become pathetic.

As to Hoofball ,again utter nonsense ,the 2 great passes which Gerrard made to Andy were nothing like a hoof and this is what we should continue throwing at him. Try feeding him more and then we can all reach the verdict if he is LFC material or another expensive episode.

is no one slightly optimistic about the huge change in carroll's performance once gerrard came on and started actually giving him something to work with? if gerrard is fit enough to play most of the time that suarez is out then carroll will score goals, i'm certain of it. he needs to work hard in general, and might not ever gain a particularly good touch, but goals will come.

I said it before and I will say it again, he just needs confidence to start scoring. He will never be Suarez in terms of technical ability, but he will score goals. He's young and will improve with good coaching so give the guy a break, he is a Liverpool player afterall.

At last people are cottoning on to this Kerry character.
Talk about obsessive behaviour! Fatal attraction or what? Only a bunny boiling woman scorned could pour out so much hatred to a man she is supposed to support. Is this because Carroll has spent a lusty night with Kerry and has then not returned her constant calls? Or is it because Carroll may have rejected her amorous advances? Either way she certainly "has it in for him".
A well earned, fantastic and much needed win at Anfield last night with the return of our best player and all Kerry wants to drone on about is how Carroll will bring down LFC, such is his negative impact. Deary me darling, dont be so obvious. You want him but you cant have him. Let it go

i am, but it also highlighted just how poor our supply to the box is.  Gerrard played 3 crosses last night, each one of them superb. Downing, Adam, Henderson and (to a level) Johnson couldn't hit a cross to save their lives.

No wonder Carroll was going ape sh*t when each cross failed to beat the first man or ended up in row z of the Kop.

Carroll has his faults, but our crossing has been shocking this season

yes we are short of another quality forward... thats where the 35million should have come in. Thats the whole point. Just because we are short upfront, that doesnt play play a poor forward up there who makes us worse. Its why we must bring a quality forward in during the window.

Suarez (out for 8 games)
Bellamy (cant play twice in a week)

If we dont, our season will certainly be over in 6 weeks.

Cant say I noticed too much actual 'hoofball' last night, and unless I'm sadly mistaken not one of our goals/goalscoring chances came from 'hoofball' either. Lets give the lads that played credit for not jus slingin it forward, and at the same time give Carroll credit for not demandin it be hoofed and instead beratin the likes of Enrique (unusually poor by his own standards last night, which may well have been due to a desire to do far better) didnt take the option to cross but instead tried to reach the line a coupla times.

Take the blinkers off Kerry, this aint the team we were last yr under Hodgson, playin poor quality football but instead a team that plays most of our games really well but need to find a finish. Theres plenty players there to score goals, Carroll aint the only one missin chances and i dont see u slatin Luis Suarez??? Carroll's gotta improve without doubt, but so too do our other finishers, and in the main thats Downing, Kuyt, Adam (tho now he's back I guess pens will be SG), Bellamy and given game time Maxi and Kuyt along with possibly the most wasteful tho undoubtedly the most talented Suarez.

I gotta say I cant understand Kuyts lack of goals this season at all :(

Spurs threw out no stories of the sort.

Mate, Tottenham don't pay 20+ million for players, not yet anyway, and with respect, given this stance there was no way we were going to do it on an unproven Championship player.

If anyone leaked those stories it was NUFC in an attempt to bump the price up.

As for 'pessimistic' Spurs fans.

Not us mate.

Hi Tottenham Dave, welcome to the Forum :)

Whats the story /rumour regarding Defoe ?

Word is that he "might" be available in January ? Shed any light on that ?

Thank you for your welcome, but I joined 5 years ago!

Defoe?

Weird one.

In my opinion, he's one of the best finishers in the league, and I would hate to lose him.

Presumably you have heard something I haven't about him turning up at Anfield?!?!?!

Well, I doubt he'd go right now, but if he did, and he's probably frustrated by being second string at the mo, he's a class act.

Predator stuff.

Evil finisher.

I think its a shame he is not first pick now, he is a great player but with the other players you have you can understand why he is on the bench.

We have a quality left back who believes that his former team-mate deserves a bit of respect.

let's give the lad a chance atleast until the end of this season to prove his worth.

I will admit that he is simply not playing to his strengths (i.e.; a powerful center forward), but hopefully Stevie G's short cameo in our win over the magpies will demonstrate to the rest of the team how they can make the best of Carroll.

at least Carroll is an improvement over Heskey,
Heskey used to head over the bar from 3 yards,
now at least Carroll managed to hit the bar from 3 yards.
but of course once his 35m transfer fee comes into picture...

Quote me on that chaps.. "If we dont (sign a quality striker), our season will certainly be over in 6 weeks."

I fear that the big geordie will be chosen at Man City tomorrow, meaning one less player linking up with play, and we will be outnumbered in midfield. Besides bringing him on for the last 5 or 10 minutes in games when we just start launching it into the box, i dont see a purpose for him.

Happy New year to one and all.
