This is all feeling bizarre (straight out of a horror flick).

Anyway, if he still wants to go there, then £70mil plus Essien and Anelka thankyou very much.....

Manager being over-riden from top again - Ambramovic likes Torres.. this makes the move their even more of a joke..

same thing happened when he bought shevchenko, Mourinho didn't want him. we know abrahamovic is an admirer of Torres long time ago.

If this is all abrahamovic' doing (because he's an admirer of Torres'), then I just feel that Torres moving there would be the biggest mistake of his career.

Whats changed since ten days ago? I am baffled by it all, trully baffled.

January 19, 2011 Torres

“We must live in the present, from match to match. We need to add more points, win matches and improve our standing in the table.
"That is our challenge and I demand the total help of our supporters in doing that. My head is in Liverpool and on helping save our season. I am professional and I always fulfil my deals. I haven't considered leaving.”

Just over a week later he hands in a transfer request?
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

Something's not right that's for sure.

I was making the point to my mate yesterday that with the financial fair play rules coming in to play in the summer, that explains why Chelsea are wanting to do the deal now. If we sell now it will not be classed under the transfer income with the new rules and we would have some difficulty in using the money over the next few years. It is in our interest to keep Torres and sell him in the summer, even if it is for slightly less money than we might get now.

Rooney ? Tevez ?

Offer him a new contract and tell him he can leave next year if we're not challenging for the title by then...
He obviously doesnt believe the club is anywhere near ready to challenge for the title with the current personnel and manager and he's probably right.. Have the owners talk to him in person and explain to him the plans for the summer window and plans for a new manager in the summer...

To be perfectly honest his chances of winning anything of worth (league or CL) this year with Chelsea are pretty slim and with their aging squad and our expected rebuilding in the summer then next season should be a much closer call between the 2 clubs...

I'm not sure Suarez is a lone striker and he remains unproven in England.. Even if we sell Torres and get the money I'm afraid we'll struggle to find a replacement who is good enough, available and willing to come to the club in the summer...

Dont get me wrong, no player is irreplacable and all that but, replacing Torres with "good" players wont be enough... We need a special talent to replace him because ultimately its special forwards who win you titles with the help of a solid squad.. ATM, outside Gerrard (who i assume will be deployed in a CM role further decreasing his impact higher up the pitch) we lack any special talent in the squad...

As for Torres himself, if the whole move to Chelsea collapses and he accepts an improved contract then he can always pull a Rooney and say he was looking for reassurances regarding the future of the club...

I'm at a loss aboutthe whole saga, but i'm wondering whether his agent may have talked to Cheaski and put in the transfer request before telling Torres. Is that even possible?. I read in one of the other posts that Torres was very unhappy with his agent for some reason.

as for replacements in the summer if he eventually decides to move : Eto'o, Cavani, Pastore, Benzema, Kaka, Ribery, Robben, Muller, Aguero(not sure how he'd fit with Suarez).. Not many attacking names outside that list who could be viable targets imo..

One good thing about all of this... I've just seen the best SN I've ever seen on any forum.  Not Too Xabi!!! PMSL. That is on par with "Cheezed off in Charlton".

Well 10 days ago chelsea hadn't made a formal bid. Now they have.

That can certainly change things in his mind.

I think the truth is that Torres's injury problems in the last year or two have moreless confirmed the weaknesses with him and that he simply is not as good as he was made out to be when he first joined us. There aren't too many of him out there but once this is all over we need to move on and find someone in the summer who can play with Suarez. The club can't be dictated to like this by one player the Gerrard story in 2005 was bad enough. He's not the player or the man we thought he was. His previous pledged of love and support for the club and the fans were worthless. No wonder he said in 2008 that he was flattered to be linked with Chelsea. I suspect he knew from day one at Anfield that if it didn't work out he would try to engineer a move to another english club like Chelsea. He's not a Liverpool man through and through and he never was. The sooner the end happens with Torres and Liverpool the sooner the club can move on. Anything less than a pledge of loyalty to the club and the fans by tomorrow night he'll be at Chelsea by monday afternoon I'm afraid.
