Taxi for Torres - judas fecks off to chelsea

Yep, anyone who says that Torres' lack of form is solely down to the tactics employed by Roy is pandering to their emotional biases. There's no denying (it won't stop them trying, mind) that Torres has missed clear goalscoring opportunites that he would ordinarily have put away, as against Spurs where he couldn't get his feet sorted or get the shot off, and as against Newcastle where he missed two chances from close-range. Mor generally, he's looked a yard short of pace, his touch has been sloppy and his attitude less than impressive. If you want to put that all down to Roy, fine, just don't go pretending like it makes complete sense, it doesn't.

The Good Yank wrote:Bull SH!T  Anything to blame the manager huh?   Torres has missed a boatload of chances recently.  And lets be honest, if you look at the types of goals Torres scores most of them are on the break and a result of longballs being played to him.  And this is going back over his entire LFC career.

He's either lost a yard of pace that he still has to work back to get due to his injuries or he needs a boot up his backside to work harder, end of.

Well lets face it some managers know instinctively what to do when they have Europe's finest exponent of putting the ball in the net at their disposal ...others clearly struggle with the term World class and what that entails .... One of the most coveted Strikers in European football who has proved time and time again how to despatch a ball and do so with aplomb ,and he's submitted as the reason we our struggling ..... only on a forum eh ....

And to think these are the same who people used to tear into Gerrard for putting in similarly lacklustre displays. :no

The problem is Torres has always been a sulky git - he has been like it every since he got here - when things dont go his way he sulks and then all off a sudden he explodes when he gets the right ball and goal and he is smiling . He is a striker - they are tempermental buggers but wouldnt change them for a bit .

Yes he has missed chances - he always has - most strikers do , the difference is the previous years more chances were created and he would take them , this year more chances arent being created so the misses get highlighted and the fustrastion gets highlighted . You name me a striker and they are all the same - they miss chances , they sulk , they show a lack of effort then all of subben they explode .

People are quick to accuse Torres of lack of effort but after running non stop chasing hopefully hoofs you are going to get tired .

Before he got into the groove after missing a chance then he turned on the style - when the team are creating maybe one or two chances then the pressure comes mounting onto Torres .

But it is quite funny that people are extremely quick to leap onto torres to mask the inept tactics the manager is using .

Create more chances for Torres and he will score you goals .

the thing is, its a bit of both.
and everyone probably knows it.

Yes Roys tactics away dont help but Torres isnt working as hard as he should be during games.
Its plain to see.

What some also conveniently (it appears) forget, is Torres at LFC has always scored far more at home. He barely scored away from anfield in Rafa's first season.

RBG, I did not say that Torres is the reason we are struggling.  I'm simply saying that it is not just down to tactics that he is struggling.  Another thing contributing to Torres struggling could also be that Gerrard has been out for a while now.

I won't celebrate Rafa going........ but I will be over the moon if Dalglish comes in. League within 2 years if he gets the job, AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT.

He'd be a far better player if he didnt get frustrated so easily, its something he needs to learn to control really. If I were in Roy's shoes id ask Gerrard to try give him some advice on controling himself. Gerrard has always been a pretty cool head when things dont go his way.

Benny funny you mentioned this:

why are the midfielders sitting so deep if they havent been told too .

A couple of lads I follow on Twitter whom I know, were at the game sat near the dugout on Wednesday night had this to say when the strikers were going over to Roy for instructions...

"Sitting next to dugout last night. Roy tellin strikers to come deep & collect ball, strikers sayin mids need to push up more...

Just a concidence to what you say, not trying to stir the pot but looks like you are bang on the money.

I don't believe he's the world's best striker, or Europe's finest exponent at putting the ball in the net or even the best striker in the Spanish team.  He is, however (at his best) a valuable asset to LFC and a matchwinner, and, God knows, we have few enough of them.  After 2 or 3 years of injuries, operations and being rushed back to pull us out of the mire or to play for Spain, I don't understand how anyone expects him to be at his best right now, regardless of tactics employed (by any manager).  Not concerned about his body language, he's lucky to play for LFC whether he knows it or not.  I'd like to think the reason for him having a face like a smacked :censored: is because he knows he's unable to perform to the level we've seen before, when he WAS one of the best around.  I'll be happy if he can avoid injury between now and the end of this crappy season, have the summer off, get a proper preseason in and come back next August 100%.

on his day, or on his form, like in 2007 he is the BEST striker in the world.

Sadly he hasn't been up to standards lately :(

I think Torres is getting slightly too much stick personally, against Newcastle and you could see Torres himself was utterly dissapointed with is 'one on one' against Newcastle. It wasn't an easy chance, split second footwork was needed to get the ball under control and a shot a way, he was unlucky. I think his teamates need to help him out more, personally. Down the flanks we need more wingers IMO as opposed to wide midfielders and although Lucas has done well in the middle lately I don't believe he's our long term answer in the middle.
