I think there are very few convinced by Roy it's fair to say. Even I've got severe doubts, but presumeably there must be a point at which everyone would say "feck me I was wrong, I love Roy". I mean if we went on an extended winning run and won the Premiership (I know, but run with it for a second), then obviously I would think everyone would change.

If we assume though that that is unlikely to say the least, where would we need to be, what would we need to do in order to make people question their stance?

I know some will say "feck off get him out now", but lets assume for this thread that he is going to be in charge all season.

My minimum standard, in that I think if he can't achieve this then it was a mistake in appointing him, is that he finished 6th or higher in the league (inproves on where he took over) and/or wins a cup. If he wins a cup, our first trophy for five seasons, I'd forgive a top eight league finish.

Any thoughts?

The best thing Roy can do to turn it around is to win football matches. The more he wins, the more fans will side with him.

But he needs to work on the PR side as well. He needs to make fans/players believe we are a great club.

Im not sure about minimum standards. The previous manager got sacked for finishing outside the top 4 but i thought that was harsh.

Anything below 7th would be a failure though.

Resume normal business for a club like Liverpool. Stop talking to the media about our players. Stop being such a grand dad.

Like the above said. Talk as if Liverpool are great and stop talking us down just so it gives him more time.

As i said in the hodgson thread before "rant boy " arrived to derail the subject again .

He needs to gets us playing better football , create more chances , set up the players better , win more games , get better results , and finally stop all the media cr.ap he is spouting - i dont want to hear how we were the better team just after the worst derby display i have witnessed for years - i dont want to hear him talking about "historic" europe games when is nowhere near as such .

I know you will hate this but i think the last bit of what rafa said is spot on

Concentrate, try to do your best because it will be the best for the club and it will be the best for the fans

Do that and he is making steps in the right direction

He said judge him after 10 games - school report says "not good enough - must improve lots "

Improve all round and the fans will start to warm to him .

Obviously winning matches right now is the most important thing. I'd just like to see him let us off the leash a bit more. When he came in he said he wanted to put a smile back on fans faces with the type of football we play and yet so far he's made Rafa look relatively gun ho. I was at Bolton on Sunday and we had eleven behind the ball at times. Against Bolton. Why we insist on bringing everyone back to defend corners and free kicks is beyond me.

He also needs to start conducting himself like a Liverpool manager. I agree that from a PR point of view he's been a disaster so far. I don't care if he believes that we'd be powerless to stop a United bid for Torres. You don't come out and admit it publically. His comments last week about the squad currently having more "expensive flops" than players who can be considered value for money were a complete joke aswell because they're just not true. He's basically trying to underplay the strength of the squad to strenthen his own position. This is a "poor squad" who had more players at the World Cup than any other club in the Premiership.

A win against Chelsea at the weekend would possibly change fans opinions but lets face it, it's gonna be mighty difficult. It shows how far expectations have fallen at the club that most fans right now would probably be happy with a point.

People seem quite reluctant to actually put a distinctive point on what he needs to do though

Why is that?

It's a fairly simple question really, if Roy stays all season where would he need to finish, what would he need to win if anything to convince you to give him another season?

In terms of on the pitch obviously we need to win more often, in fact we need to win as many games as possible just to stay in contention of finishing 6th or higher.

But for me the issue is not soley based on the results on the pitch. The way he has conducted himself when doing press conferences, his comments in general have shown he is not fit to be the manager of a club this big. And I don't think that's something he can improve on. He is who he is and he will act in the same manner, the guy is 70 something and is generally suited to managing small clubs. It's not as if he is an up and coming young manager who is trying to shape his own persona. He needs to go and he needs to go asap. He is fortunate to have come in just before we got new owners so I suspect he will get at least until Jan or the summer, unless of course we go onto to lose more unexpected games in which case id expect the axe to fall swiftly.

It was a monumental mistake to hire him in the first place. His only task should be salvaging something from this year and then stepping down.

Realistically, due to his poor start and rocky relationship with the fans, id say he has to finish in the Top 4..or just outside with a Cup to convince fans.

Maybe that's because that ship has sailed Mick. You would be hard pressed to find a single fan who still thinks he is right for the job mate. He said judge him after 10 games and afetr 10 games I think it's safe to say he is NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

If he has any respect for the club he will step down.

Do you want a position in the league ?

For me if he wants another season - Top 4

A Cup would prob do as well .

I was positive about Hodgsons appointment initially. He started by saying all the right things. And in fairness he had the most disgusting set of opening fixtures.
His PR side has been disastrous and I feel this more than anything has turned fans against him. Losing and playing badly can happen but talking nonsense - slagging a past regime. Stating Liverpool were powerless to approaches from Man UTD...... and just a poor general outlook really has not impressed me. If he just concenrated on LFC and took his shield down then I am open to changing my mind on him. He manages arguably 3 of the best players in the world in their position so he needs to start saying the right things. Torres and Reina don't want to leave Liverpool ( Opinion ) but I wouldn't force their hands..........

Not only the fans but he has disrespected the club, he has disrespected the former manager, someone who was adored by the fans. If he had any brains he would have known not to even try the latter but he didn't.

He isn't cut out for a club of this stature. He doens't get the fans and he doesn't get the club. I know it sounds harsh but he really is out of his depth here.

Yet more people very reluctant to put a number up (at least Jack said it, close to the top four with a cup). Rather than saying he has to "win plenty of football matches" which is a pretty vague statement, why not just say what you expect of him?

Europa Cup and top 4 to be honest. We can't afford another year out in the cold. He must have known when taking the job that anything bar 4th place would make his position very uncomfortable. If he didn't believe he could do it then he should have stayed in London.

Henry is not a Sheik. But the job of attracting exciting talent will be so much easier with Torres and Reina still his club.

His comments on Pepe and Torres were so far apart it's almost as if someone at the club got him by the collar and told him what to say. Personally I am astonished the club would jeapordise losing players of that calibre for the sake of sticking with him. He is a liability imo. He was right, every press conference he has is worse than the last.
