No surprises that the forum and all things LFC are doom and gloom at the moment. After all, we have no manager, finished 7th in the league, have no money, two tw@ts for owners, a Chelsea supporting chairman and our best players supposedly want to leave. To top it all off we look increasingly likely to appoint old Woy as the new boss. Don't get me wrong he's a decent manager, but hardly an inspiring choice, and smacks of the owners preferring a 'yes man' to someone like Dalglish who is clearly his own man.

I feel the need to put some sort of positive spin on next season though, because frankly it's been depressing as f**k of late, world cup or no world cup.

I still maintain that if we can hold the squad of players together that we have (that's a big if), then we should comfortably finish in the top four next season. A new manager, whoever that is, should at least freshen up our ideas and give the players a bit of a boost, because it was obvious to all that most of them had gone completely stale under the previous regime. If Torres stays, and can stay fit for 75% of the games (an even bigger if) then I'd go as far as to say we are still capable of challenging for this league. After all this is the same squad that ran United extremely close just 12 months ago, with Johnson and Aquilani in for Arbeloa and Alonso the only significant changes.

A starting XI of Reina, Johnson, Carragher, Agger, Insua, Kuyt, Mascherano, Aquilani, Benayoun, Gerrard, Torres can beat anyone on their day. Sure there are weaknesses, and sure the squad is painfully thin, but we are not all that bad. I think the change of manager takes away the need for wholesale changes because I think the change in regime will give some of these players the new start they needed. Benitez was a good manager, but I think a new approach was needed.

To an extent we are papering over the cracks until the club gets sold, because the seriousness of the financial situation cannot be ignored. But if the new manager can convince our best players to stay for another season, by which point we hope that new owners may be in place, then without immediate investment I still think we can have a much better season than the one thats just finished.

Well John you can cross Benayoun off your list he's gone to chelsea signed a 4 year deal, and mascherano's wife is in Italy looking at houses and learning Italian.
Sorry but I cannot be optimistic about the future of the club because we are fucked mate.

Masch might go...but i think we'll deal with it. Defensive holding midfielders are 10 to the penny in Europe and we'll have no problem replacing him with HALF of the fee we'll get for him.

Sorry but I cannot be optimistic about the future of the club because we are fucked mate.

Can't see the Benayoun deal happening to be honest Ciggy. We haven't accepted any bids for him as far as I know so he's signed nothing with Chelsea. Chelsea will need to sort their squad in the next few years as so many of them are over 30. Buying Benayoun, who's 29, does not solve that, so I think they'll be after younger players this summer.

Mascherano is the one I think who's most likely to go. If he does then fine, he's not irreplaceable, although I'd ideally like him to stay. If he plays as well in the next few world cup games as he did in the first then his price will rocket.

About time wn had some positive posts on here. I personaly think stevie and torres will stay. And once those pair of p.ricks sell things will vastly improve.and we will definatly finish higher than 7th next season.

Masch wants to leave...he's wanted out ever since Barca tried to buy him. he's publicly said he's unhappy in England, what do we do? Keep him until his contract expires?

The lad ran around the pitch last season acting like a kid who had been told Christmas was cancelled. If he wants to go then sell him.

Well you've just said he is WORLD class. Who are these world class midfielders that we can sign for £15 million? We might get a decent player in for that, but it would be amazing business to get a world class player in for that money, especially when we can't even offer CL football next season. Chances our someone will come in who doesn't settle or gets injured frequently and so on and so on. Mascherano was an established Premiership player.

He wanted to go last season, but even then he was probably our best outfield player.

And, in terms of assets, it seems like Yossis gone and it's likely there'll be more to follow. The only quality players not to be linked with an exit are Pepe, Johnston and possibly Agger.

Look at out squad last season, great first eleven but thread bare squad. A good first 11 means absolutely f'uck all because you virtually NEVER get to use it with all the injuries in the modern game.

At present we have Carra to cover RB; Sotos and Skrtel to cover CB, Agger to cover LB. Reira and Babel at LM, Kuyt and Maxi at RM, Lucas and Aquilani at CM with Gerrard and Torres up front (with Ngog and Pacheco as cover). Our squad needs expansion not depletion. Its a squad game these days.

Yossi Benayoun has penned a four-year deal with Chelsea, according to reports in his native Israel.

Last month the Premier League champions tabled an offer of £4million for the 30-year-old which was rejected by Liverpool but are understood to have increased their valuation but refused to meet his £10million asking price.

Carlo Ancelotti is keen to enlist the midfielder's services after allowing Joe Cole to leave Stamford Bridge on a free transfer after failing to agree a new deal.

Benayoun penned a four-year deal to remain at Anfield last summer and became a regular fixture in Rafael Benitez's side over the previous two seasons despite a muted arrival from West Ham United in 2007.

But an increased salary and the prospect of regular appearances in next season's Champions League proved too strong for him to resist and he is set to return to England later this week to undergo a medical at Chelsea's training complex in Cobham before being unveiled.

Completley disagree with you there . Apart from Pepe , Javier was one of the other other handful of players who looked like he gave a t.oss. Big big loss for us when he goes ,
