MON is trying to shaft us with what hes asking for Barry who in my opinion is only worth 12 tops. So lets do some shafting back regarding Alonso

It's a little game of brinkmanship on both counts at the moments nan. The Alonso deal won't go through untill we have agreed a price for Barry but i'd expect expect it to happen virtually immediately after. If we sell Alonso first, Villa will know that we NEED Barry (not want) but then the flip-side is if we buy Barry, Juventus will know that we NEED to sell Alonso. It's pretty frustrating for us fans. Chelsea or the mancs would have simply said, "yep here's your £18 million, it's a bit more than we want to pay but fook it, you don't wanna sell so let's just get it done". Unfortunately we don't have the dosh to do that so we get this long drawn out (and bloody tedious) saga. It will all be over in a week or so i'd guess though.

Raineri: "Alonso's move would be a 30 Million € (21M pounds) move and we need time to think about it carefully".

Well, that price is more like it. I'm more calm now, my main worry was that Liverpool wasn't negotiating hard for their players, but it seems that they are.

I would imagine that includes wages, though.

I'm not sure Lando mate.

We have official silence, the only words concerning Xabi Alonso have come from Rafa when he received the honourary doctorate. He said Xabi Alonso is a very important player for us and only a very high sum would make a move possible.

We have an article in the Liverpool echo that said something about that aswell, as in only a great offer would be considered.

And it makes sense mate. We bought him for 10.5, but due to him reaching the CL final and reaching a certain amount of games the price went to 14M. Besides that, Liverpool have to pay 20% of any profit to Alonso's former club. That is, if we get 14, nothing is paid, but if we get 15, 200K will go to Real Sociedad.

So either you keep a good player or you make profit with him, and anything under 15 M would be like losing money with Alonso.

Unless we receive a big sum from Chelsea who apparently are interested according to the local paper (who has contacts with Xabi's agent) I prefer Alonso stays. We need as End OF says to build on these quality players we have.

Barry seems certainly like an interesting addition but swapping him for Alonso is a gamble with no profit in terms of money at the end of the day

Sounds like the Juventus bid for Alonso is off yet again. Its been on and off more times than a whores knickers this transfer.

Maybe now we are supposedly getting some money in from the Crouch deal, money won't be quite as tight?

The italian mate is angry because now Juventus are targetting Poulsen, who, btw, is a great signing.

He's not better than Alonso, but he's more mobile, and very solid. Good buy anyway Juventino and cheaper.

According to local radio here, Rafa set before the Euro a price for Alonso around 15M, and now he's saying that's not enough and is asking 21M pounds. That matches the words of Rainieri, who said it would be a 20M operation and must be thought carefully.

That also makes sense with Rafa's words saying he's an important player and only a very gugh sum would allow the move.

Btw the latest news on Alonso is that he's been having a walk this afternoon. And in today's interview he has shown a bit of weariness to the moving question. He has answered that's not up to him but up to the club's and that he's happy in liverpool. He has sternly said he only wants to enjoy some holidays.
