The Alonso Thread - hands in transfer request

What a player wants GYBS is to feel valued. Xabi grew up in a town in which we say hello to Real Madrid by burning their flags, and Xabi is a son of a Real Sociedad and Barcelona legend. So if it was up to environment he wouldn't be playing in Madrid.

But most players, and I don't think Torres (or Owen) is  different, don't have those sentiments in the first places of their values. If they don't feel valued, and someone else of an archrival club does, they're going to consider seriously the offer.

Meaning, we have to be calm about Torres, because he has gained a lot of respect in England, he has less pressure from the media, he has a great contract, he's valued, and he's in a team that can win everything. That's the facts we can rely upon, not the fact that in his heart is a colchonero. That does count for a few like Carra (and perhaps it's not the bext example due to his beginnings), not for most players (at least in Spain. It's true that I've seen stronger bonds in Liverpool than anywhere else, the likes of Dalglish, Toshack, Robinson are true reds and may have not played in Manchester never).

very good post sabre , feeling wanted by the club is a big factor so once again we can understand why he went home after what happened last season . Loosing xabi is sad as always liked both as a player and a person and i know he will always have the respect of most of the fans and i bet you he will still cheer us on and look for our results as we are a club in his heart now but this loss is nothing compared to how i felt when rush , souness , fowler owen macca and a few other left the club . Rush and souness both left with their heads high to try a new challenge , fowler was dumped out of the club by gh , macca went on a free - both his and clubs fault and we all know about owen . Now xabi has given us the prime 5 years of his career and wants to try a new challenge and for me he should also leave with his head held high and given respect he earned during his time with us and wished well in the rest of his life and hopefully we can see him back at anfield to give him a great reception he deserves and a big thanks. We have never been bitter fans because someone left the club im sure we shouldnt start now .

I think Alonso gave part of the answer to why he decided now was the time to move when he talked about the raised tax rate and the weak pound earlier this summer. Maybe Rafa touting him round like a second hand car had a little to do with it, but like with most players, money tends to be a deciding factor in these things.

So it looks like Huntelaar has gone to Milan. Just goes to show how quick they will ship you out if you are not a sucess there.

I didn't think he had done all that badly with them. I know he couldn't play in Europe for them, but he seemed to be scoring regularly in the league.

12.8 million pounds... what a bargain... how much did we pay for Babel? I believe we missed a great opportunity...

At the end of the day Xabi was a bit homesick and wanted a change, i can't blame him for that but considering his background it is a bit like him joining Manure if he was Stevie G and when someone abandons his principles so readily then you have to question their sense of honour.

Its the end of the road my friend
Your time in a red shirt is at an end
Your time at Anfield is up
Thanks for helping us win our 5th European Cup
You were our Spanish mid field maestro
all our fans will be sad to see you go
from the bottom of all our hearts
Goodbye Xabi Alonso

From a red legend to a white warrior
From Liverpool to Real Madrid
From England to Spain
Thanks for helping Gerrard, Carragher and The Kid
Instead of working with Gerrard
You’ll be working With Ronaldo
So once again from all Liverpool fans
Adios Xabi Alonso

Remember our teams motto
You’ll Never Walk Alone
You belong at Anfield
You’ll always be welcome home
You have brought joy to our fans
With the 2 own half goals against Luton and Newcastle
You and Gerrard made the midfield
And stoped anyone who gave you hassle
All our fans loved you
None of us wanted you to go
But we couldn’t stop you so all thats left to say is
ADIOS AMIGO

I'm disappointed that he felt that he had to leave and whatever the reasons are, only he knows.

What I do know however, is that in his tenure here, he gave us 2 marvelous seasons and behaved in a manner that other players should copy. In addition, we made a good profit from the deal. At least we can say that.

Adios Xabi and many thanks.

You'll regret the move to Madrid though.

Alonso poem by Lee J

So you've left pool for Spain
do you think you'll even get a kick?
In the shirt of white, you'll look a right sight
sat on the bench scratching your d!ck.

you can afford a lifestyle of the rich n famous
you can buy big houses and cars
but on your return to Anfield
we hope Carra puts you on your ar$e

I thank you
