I've made no secret that Alonso's one of my favourite players and that we should be doing our utmost to hang onto him.  But, if that 20 million + Negredo + Snejder on 2-year loan has any truth to it, I think it's time to do business.  The latest quotes from Alonso offer more fence sitting and, while I acknowledge they may have been embroidered a bit by the UK press, the clear underlying message to me is that he wants to go to Madrid and that he is just waiting patiently for the negotiations to finish between the two clubs.  I'm sure if he stayed he'd be a model professional but if he really does want to go this badly, the time to sell him is now given what Madrid appear to be offering.  No guarantees that Negredo and Snejder will bed in seemlessly, of course, but both should strengthen our team.  If the rest of the money can be put toward someone like Silva or Young, so much the better.  Interesting times.

The thing is BB, unfortunately, his heart wants out, so I would get a deal that would benefit him and us at the same time.

If he wants out then i think it might be a good thing. a) There's no point in having an unhappy player at the club, we all know Alonso can perform even when he wants out but i don't think it's fair on him to be forced to play for us. b) With the money we get for him + Negredo on a permo and Sneijder on loan then we may benefit. If we do buy Silva and Parker with the money, we would have 6 new players (Johnson, Mavinga, Sneijder, Silva, Parker and Negredo) who if you would have offered me at the beginning of the transfer market i would have taken.

Exactly mate.  I'm gutted that he no longer really gets on with Rafa (according to Sabre's Uncle Alberto) and that he wants to leave but that seems to be the case.  Fortunately, if this new rumour is to be believed, the cash + players should soften the blow.  If and when he does go, I'll thank him for all he's done and wish him all the best at Madrid (except against us) but part of me will still be a bit let down that he's decided to move on.

I don't think Negredo quite has the pace, or the ability to make close quarters combat searing runs through traffic in the box (L'OM away) that Torres has. But he is big and strong, has an eye for goal, can head the ball well, hold it up pretty good, he is not half bad at spotting passes for temmates either, and is not overly selfish (at least when I have seen him)

And I don't know how often he does this (I wouldn't imagine too often) but I have seen him capable of recieving the ball outwide and using a trick or two to beat a man and cross the ball in. Which looked very strange considering his size and he was doing somthing you would expect from Robinho.  That said, I'm sure someone else could say that Peter Crouch on occasion pulls out these spectacular over the head kicks.

during the back half of last season there was all this talk about Llorente being a good shout as a target, but I always insisted on Negredo. While Llorente is bigger, he is more of a "big striker"  while I see Negredo as more of a well rounded striker with good size.
