3 years ago gattuso was the best defensive midfielder in the world , he reads the game brilliantly , he's lost his pace but is still a top player.

Xabi Alonso appears ready to leave Liverpool

Tony Evans, Gary Jacob

Liverpool placed a £35 million valuation on Xabi Alonso last night after the Spain midfield player said his goodbyes to some members of the club's staff. However, Real Madrid, with whom the player has been linked, have not yet made an official offer.

Alonso's relationship with Rafael Benítez has been troubled since the Liverpool manager began his pursuit of Gareth Barry last year. Although Benítez wants to keep the 27-year-old, there is a growing acceptance at Anfield that the player is likely to move to Real.

Benítez has justified paying up to £18.5 million to Portsmouth for Glen Johnson, who has joined on a four-year contract, because the right back was English. The manager has offered a new contract to Álvaro Arbeloa, who has one year left on his deal, but is also wanted by Real.

“We knew the market was going to be difficult this summer and some of it has been crazy,” Benítez said. “We could buy one more player without selling anyone.”

I hope we get a decent amount of money. 80Mil for Ronaldo, we should be getting at least 30Mil if it is a straight cash deal.

Nan if Tony Evans has said then I think we can face facts and that he is off.

They probably wont. It's just a big merry go round there especially with the 'galacticos' rule back in action. If he were to have a poor season the fans would probably get on his back.

Madrid just want to win their 10th European Cup in the Bernabeu so they are just buying the best players in the world.

Hope we tw@t them everywhere and knock them out in the first round cause we can be drawn against them.

I wish we had some rich owners. Not so we could just buy trophies but then at least it would serve as a deterrent to other clubs wanting to snatch our players right under our nose so easily.

Madrid is desperate for a creative midfielder. And all the supporters want Alonso because he is really good (obvious) and is Spaniard.
I just hate Real Madrid style because it´s high handed to snatch the biggest figures of the teams, Ronaldo from United, Kaká from Milan, Ribery from Bayern....

It creates resentment and unrest.

That´s a double edged sword. I prefer the traditional values.

I just see a big fat gapping hole in our midfield if he leaves, I cannot see a replacement out there unless Gerrard goes back there, Im sorry but I cant. Masch can be replaced Xabi cant.

I think they will be offered new contracts and might stay 1 more season, to win the league and then be allowed to leave we hold all the cards both still have 3 years on their contracts, its up to the players now.

Madrid considers two options for that position, Alonso or De Rossi. The problem is that everyone in the capital wants Alonso.
We should take this advantage to clear out them.
