It depends on the level and intent of the opposition to a great degree of course, but generally we're a very disciplined side that's tough to break down. Offensively, we're patient, probing but often far from fluent.

F.ucking hell, thats gotta be a first.  :Oo:  :D

Probably.

That 'Bamaga man' on the other hand, could never see eye to with him  :no

Source : Setanta Sports

Xabi Alonso has committed himself to Liverpool after a turbulent summer and the Spaniard feels The Reds have never had a better chance of winning the Premier League title.

The European champion was strongly linked Juventus and Arsenal in the summer, having seemingly been deemed surplus to requirements as Rafa Benitez went in pursuit of Gareth Barry.

Barry proved elusive and as such Alonso remained on Merseyside – much to the relief of the Anfield faithful.

Alonso is a firm favourite of the Liverpool faithful and he is looking forward to pushing for the title.

“At some stage my future was not clear, I was wondering what was going to happen because there were propositions, but I prefer to move on,” he told Setanta Sports.

“Of course the fans’ backing was a massive boost because they let me know they wanted me to stay.”

When asked about his future, he added: “Of course I can see myself here for more years to come.

“I have a lot of very good examples to follow – I am very close friends with Sami Hyypia, he is a foreigner having a great career at Liverpool, and Didi Hamann became important as a Liverpool player as well.”

While The Reds welcome The Hammers on Monday night, live on Setanta Sports, Alonso has hailed his team’s consistency, and backed them to win the Premier League trophy this term.

“The team is in a good shape, is being consistent, which is what we wanted,” Alonso said: “But we have a lot of things to do still.”

When asked if this is the best chance for Liverpool to win the title during his time at the club, Alonso said: “Yes absolutely.

“We have never been closer to the top at this stage of the season, this is probably the best Premier League start I’ve ever had at Liverpool, but you have to be conscious and think about West Ham.”

That's my Xabi, humble. I like that he seems as a model not the legends like Dalglish or Rush, but the good servants of the club, like Hamman or Hyypia

Haha!! doesn't that make sense in english then other than "he's mine"?, In Spanish it's just a way of endearment to say you agree or you're proud about someone. No competition Nanny, don't worry :D

I'm eager to hear those answers too.

I just hope we don't make the same mistake Real Madrid did with Makelele. Makelele hadn't skill, was not good enough for Madrid's galacticos. Then they spent 4 seasons looking for a decent holding midfielder.

Well, since Alonso just can't make it in the PL a player like Barry, even though less skilled is much more used to the pace and toughness of the league.
Also as we all know money isn't exactly available in droves, so
keeping Masch, Gerrard, Lucas and Plessis with Guthrie as an option would be fine by me if we could use the money to buy
a striker(since we have only one since Crouch is not in favour)
or to maybe finally buy a winger och fullback which we havn't done for 3 years now...

I have always been a fan of Joaquin, and with Valencia's poor season we might get him at a reasonable price.
He has pace to burn and is very irrational with much skill in his locker.
Even if rafa has this obbsession with with the centre of the park, we have more than enoughif we are ever going to give Plessis a chance.
And I see no chance of Lucas leaving.

Well said Penguins.  :D

I know that post is from ages ago. And I don't bring it so that we discuss Alonso's old discussions.

But next time someone has the temptation to say a good player should be sold or that he has nothing more to offer to the club, I'd ask him to think twice.

It píssed me off when I read things like Alonso can't make it in the PL back then, and I wouldn't want other good players being judged quickly again.

I was not happy when I saw a couples of week back people not apreciating the dark work the Mascherano is doing for us even if it's not his best season. I didn't like how even fúcking articles about him going out appeared.

I wouldn't like to see Riera written off in 5 months if he has a bad form which is something every player can have.

If we all know that form is temporary and class is permanent, why can't be more patient with the good players when they come from injury, have a bad form, or are finding his place in the team? Does anybody think that Keane won't give us more and better things that what he has provided us so far?

Don't these players which are top of the table deserve a bit of patience?

Sorry for this happy clappy eyaculation. But it's not only the comments anti Rafa, I really find unfair to see some of the things that are said about our players as a whole when I read the match threads.

Not saying the members who do that haven't the right to voice their opinions, just remembering sometimes, like in the post I've quoted, we are fustrated when the team is not comfortably winning and we say unfair things.

Alonso hasnt been playing bad but like most of the side he hasnt been consistantly great either.
Good goal today but he was mr nowhere man in the first half and playing to close to Masch, second half was much better and he could have got a couple, he`s our second most creative player so right now (with Torres out) we need him further up the park.
Hopefully the goal can give him the confidence to get forward a bit more especially when he`s got Masch behind him.
Dont judge a book by the cover, unless you cover just another, because blind exceptance is a sign,

He´s a great great player, :censored: class, our most creative player no doubt.
But the problem is he´s a bit slow, and he suffers a lot with the rival´s pressure on him.
That´s why he improves always in the second halfs when he has more space and time to move and pass well.

Really impressed with alonso's turnaround . This season he has been faster to every loose ball near him , he has learned to pass faster , passing has improved as well compared to the last season . He's not afraid to go in for challenges as well . This barry saga is the kick up the :censored: which he has need and he has come back stronger . Well done , hopefully he can sustain this form as he's a integral part of the midfield and the core of the team

There's no way we are going to sell him to Bilbao, so don't start a sell ALonso campaign eh? :D (kidding)

Denying Alonso is not fast is silly, he's slow. But I disagree what you say about second halves, and that can applied to any player or team: No team will be comfortable with a great pressing, and every team will play more comfortable when the pressure loses intensity. That's true for ALonso and every midfielder that will be starting a team's play. It's not a problem that only Alonso or slow players have, that is.

Meaning, haven't you ever seen good first halves of ALonso? I have. Alonso has some features and one of them is that he's not fast. But I don't think he should be a player for second halves.

Hopefully he will learn from yesterday and shoot from the edge of the penalty area more rather than trying to catch the keeper off his line with shots from halfway. He showed he can score from there quite easily, why do we not see it more often?

EDIT : so glad we didn't sell him, just need Rafa and Alonso to review his role and get him more involved when we need him. Less fanciful long balls, more cutting through balls on the ground. Less chips from halfway, more jogs forward to the edge of the box and strike from there.

Never buy from PC World, product quality is poor and their 'customer service' is even poorer
