Pity.  And you lot were so confident he was coming.

Now this could still be a plan by Fenerbahce side. They might very well be bluffing. I think they are trying to speed up the signing process so Xabi could play next week for Fener

But walkalone, the club has said little about Alonso. Most of the Alonso stories are motivated by the press. Xabi's dad told me not to believe everything I read when the Juventus story was going on and time has given him the reason.

The press say a lot of things, days before I went on a miniholidays, you were considering as a fact he'd be a Fenerbahce player, I come back from the holidays and still no news and the player making the preseason.

In Italy they were saying the same things before this, they even were claiming the player was going to have a medical the next day.

I won't deny it always seemed as if he was going to leave, little details like Alonso not appearing in the photos of next season shirt in liverpoolfc.tv site (he was a regular to appear in those adverts), Rafa's words, Barry incoming, were all indicators that Xabi was going but we never know the truth from outside. We don't know whether Rafa is unhappy with Alonso or just wants to ask him more, a kind of "you've been 4 years here, it's time you get more responsabilities in the team" message, which btw, I think it's a fair one.

I hope Xabi gets the message and gives 110% to complete an excellent season.

Sabre you are correct on everything. I even have news that he has signed precontract with Fenerbahce. This is not press news, yet from a very reliable sources that I have. What has changed is a whole different story and unfortunately I do not know yet. But if it does not work out and Xabi stays at LFC, I will get all the info and and story about what happened. I woudl be glad to share as well.

My current suspicion (this is my own not from any sources) is that the bombings in Istanbul last week also had some affect on this deal. I can see him not wanting to be in Istanbul. But hey, this is all a controversy at this moment. Everybody is waiting some news about something. It sure would be a GIANT deal for Fenerbahce to sign him, and I am sure it would be a pretty big deal for LFC if he stays. We'll wait and see. I am pretty curious about the real story behind this transfer.

Don't give it much importance. Those are normal things in small towns. Every San Sebastian famous people like the "oreja de Vangogh" group band, or Xabi's dad (who was  RS and Barcelona player) or the politicians are easily spotted in a small town. I don't know Xabi's dad as in a relation of friendship, he's a legend and I've stopped and talked with him either because I was with someone who's mates of him or because I just stopped him as yet another fan does.

Those encounters are normal, that is, if Liverpool was the size of San Sebastian, you'd see Torres and Mascherano every week somewhere.
