WATFORD VS LIVERPOOL - Where do we go from here?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Rafa D » Wed Jan 10, 2007 12:33 pm

After the last two games, Liverpool's season objectives have been cut dramastically. The defence of the F.A Cup was a non starter and the Carling Cup Semi-Final was a hurtful experience but it is vital we strike back and do it viciously.

There will be a lot of wounded lions in the dressing room. The manner of the 2 defeats considering our brilliant home record for the best part of 2 seasons, make it an even more bitter pill to swallow. The game at the weekend is the time to put it right.

Watford, although languishing at the bottom of the Premiership will certainly be no push-overs. There are hard to score against and with our recent slump, Aidy and the boys will certainly fancy their chances. Its vital we get back on the right track straight away in the Premiership and frankly I don't car what team he puts out. Rafa and the boys have got to get it right. I would strongly advise he does not start Dudek though.

Come on lads. 3 points is a must or then real questions will start to be asked.

On a personal note I reckon the lads will restore a bit of pride and do Watford about 3 - 0, players like Kuyt, Gerrard, Bellamy, and Carra dont like losing.

You'll Never Walk Alone.

Yeah we need to just focus on this game now. We have got to prove a point that we aren't as bad as last night and it was a one off. It can happen to any team i can remember Man U losing 6-3 to Southampton when they were at the height of their power and that was in the league. Everyone was thinking is this the end of them? but no it was just a blip. Lets get back on track and prove something against Watford. Get Kuyt and Reina back in the team and lets make sure these 2 bad performances don't affect our league form.

Saturday can't come quick enough for me. This is a game where we'll truly find out about the character of certain players after what's quite frankly been a shocking few days.

                                     Reina

         Finnan         Carragher      Hyypia        Aurelio

         Pennant       Alonso         Gerrard         Riise

                           Bellamy        Kuyt

this is where the real test starts, this is where we have to bounce back and regain some of that confidence and pride we lost over the last two games. it'll be a real test of character for the team and the gaffer.

i think we need to get an early goal to settle us then we can take it from there. you just know that the senior players that start on sat like gerrard, carra, alonso and finnan are really gonna pull their socks up and are gonna be gunning for a good win.

like Doddy said, it aint gonna be a walkover but we have the class and experience to really turn it on and produce a good game...

onwards and upwards - the only way.

Even though half our first team didnt play last night - we've just goota hope it hasn't affacted the team as a whole psychologically. And also gotta hope that gerrard isn't too knackered after a draining 4 days.

we need to put out our strongest 11, give it our all and get back to winning ways and winning mentality. Then we have a weeks rest till chelski.

my vote would be:

                          Reina

Finnan         Carra         Agger      Aurelio

Pennant     Gerrard        Alonso      Riise

                   Kuyt         Bellamy

Subs:
Dudek - or Martin! (but it'll be dudek)
Hyypia
warnock
Guthrie
Crouch

That's gotta be our strongest 11 at the mo.

- Riise and aurelio can interchange if they need to.

- Warnock's on the bench as garcia and gonzo are injured and if riise or aurelio get injured, warnck can come in at LB, with JAR FA going to left wing

- with momo and zenden still out guthrie is our only back-up central-mid, so either he gets a place on the bench, or his plach goes to fowler and hyypia can come on puching JC into midfield if we need to.

I think thats a bit of a stretch.

Gerrard no doubt is World Class.
Carragher is very good, world class?  I dont think so but that doesnt mean he isnt a very good defender. If he had an extra yard of pace and better ball distribution then yes.
Alonso has all the tools to be World class.  His range of passing is fantastic.
Reina is again a very good keeper. Not sure his world class though.
Kuyt - Works hard, can score goals. World class? I aint so sure.

i can see what your saying and yes your right. the thing with carra is that on the day he can be one of the best defenders in the world then other times he can look a little rusty.

the kuyt thing i just threw into the air (hence the question marks) just to hear other peoples opinions on him. like you said he's good, works hard and scores but theres just something missing.......pace maybe???

does it matter?

how many 'world class' players are in this side:

Jens Lehmann
Justin Hoyte
Kolo Toure
Philippe Senderos
Gael Clichy
Alexander Hleb
Cesc Fabregas
Gilberto
Tomas Rosicky
Thierry Henry
Robin Van Persie

arsenals last league match

henry - world class
Gilberto / fabregas - getting there/ on the fringes of
Van Persie/Hleb /Rosicky/Lehmann - v. good but not 'world class'

this is a thread about our next league match. not a doom and gloom thread - - the world class players debate can surely fit in one of the many other threads analysing our squad

despite being poor yesterday, hyypia should play in this one. he was outstanding against bolton recently and watford are another very direct team who will bombard us with high balls into the box.

Would you not play Aurelio in the midfield position and use Riise as the LB??

Riise likes to shoot a lot and will have more chance in midfield. He also aint the best defender (im sure murphy will agree with me on that 1!) Just think of all the goals he scored in left mid in 2001/2. Why not give Warnock a chance at left back?
