Top Four Run In

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Still a  chance of making top four if we can just win every match remaining. Seems a tall order but in the last five years we are a team that can go on a run to end the season. I’m sure other teams will drop points so if we just focus on maximum points for each remaining game. 71 points has been enough for top four in the past. Margins are thin but we can do it.

I was really optimistic a while ago about getting 4th as we had got ourselves right in there after hammering manure. Then losing to Bournemouth and only taking a point from that tough week left us with a mountain to climb again.  Our results are improving but we still look vulnerable so while I do think the others will drop points I think we will too.

Really not looking forward to either Europa or Conference league though.

9 points adrift, getting difficult, all we could do is win remaining games.

Really needed Spurs to get something off Newcastle today.

We’ve got the easiest run in on paper but because of those other useless idiots today giving Newcastle’s goal difference a leg up we effectively find ourselves 10 points behind the Magpies with just 7 games to go. Newcastle would have to lose at least 3, probably 4, of their remaining 7 games and we’d have to win all of ours. A Tottenham win today would have made things interesting but as it stands it’s going to be tough. For us to have any chance Everton have got to beat Newcastle next time out.

If we can beat West Ham then we have three matches at home we should win. Get on a roll and anything could happen.

Didn't know they had a good goal difference, 29 to our 21, going to be a tough task now. Struggling to see Newcastle screw their chances from here, same with manc tw@ts.

It doesn’t seem good as it stands but anything can happen. Newcastle (especially after thumping Spurs) look to be in good form, they still have a tricky few games but they seem to have good chemistry. ManUre look vulnerable but they have a nice cushion thanks to some dodgy refereeing in prior matches. I see them dropping points but will they drop enough points?

There is an eb and flow to every season but it doesn’t look great at this moment, could still change though.

If we fall short by a few points it's going to sting, anyhow Europa is a trophy Klopp ain't won so we could always go for that lol. Next season top 4 will be a dog fight.

I was slightly on the optimistic end but yesterday result screwed things over.

We won’t get top 4

Europa maybe a good tournament to use to rotate players in

We shouldn’t turn our noses up at the EL, with Newcastle now being owned by a bunch of Saudi’s who make City’s owners look like paupers and United on the verge of being bought out by the Qatari’s going forward the Europa League may prove be our best route into the CL.
The Thursday/Sunday thing is obviously not ideal but ever since a CL place was awarded to the winners the Europa League has definitely become trophy worth winning.
Btw nice to see you back posting Lallana.

Yup City will always take a spot, the other 3 will be a fight between us, Arsenal, Mannure and then you've got Chelsea and Spurs.

Newcastle will strengthen and imo will cement a spot next season. Maybe a little early but I think they may challenge for the title next season, if they recruit really well. May not win it but they'll definitely close the gap.

If the teams from the CL were not parachuting down then it would be a really good competition. I think the winner comes from that every year.

Last 4 winners have been from Europa group stages. In the last 10 Europa finals only 3 teams who dropped from UCL won it.
However the UCL drop outs make it to the final often. Last 10 finals, 11 Europa teams 9 UCL.

To be fair mate you’d like to think we’d give most teams who can’t get out of the group stages a run for their money. Don’t get me wrong though I’m not trying to say winning the EL will be easy I’m just highlighting the fact that as the number of prem clubs who are owned by super wealthy owners increases winning the EL might become easier than finishing in the top 4.
