he wasn't convicted.   But agree about his record with injury....Newcastle must have snapped Real's arm off when they offered that amount of money....15 million wasn't it?

I wouldn't have Woodgate, he hasn't kicked a ball for Real yet and he's been there a year!

Shaun Wright Phillips would be a great player and probably be more value for money than Joaquin.

Woodgate was found guilty and sentanced to community service.

really?  maybe i'm confusing him with Bowyer.....still, he spends more time on the sick bench than the pitch!

To be honest, Woodgates racial drama totally slipped my mind.

Do you reckon we could get Ledley King? Much do you think he'd go for?

3 reasons we don't buy more british players:

1.  Lack of talent

2.  Overpriced

3.  British players more loyal to their clubs than foreigners making transfers between top teams near impossible (obviously there are exceptions like sol campbell)

Just listening to the chat on here, woodgate would be a :censored: buy.  Whether he will even play again i am not sure.

The only real proven british talent that would improve our side and who we could realistically get are King, Defoe and Wright-Philips.  However inflated price tags mean we could probably only sign one of these this summer, not good business as we need to strengthen several positions.

Buying abroad is our only real option if we are to improve next season

I love Stevie but we all know that if it is'nt this season it'll be next that he'll go either to the Chelsea scum "to win silverwear" or Madrid "to try & play abroard". As for Traore, he plays well in fits & starts but we all know we're waiting for the nightmare game he has every now & again.

Why should'nt we buy British players? There are a few that will be moving clubs this summer & for a change some of them are very good, every bit as good as the overseas players we're being linked with every day! Van der varrt for instance, a winger from the Dutch leagues, a very highly rated winger at that but any better than Wright phillips?? Then theres Baraca of Valencia, 30 years old from a league as good as ours but not as psyical so he'll need a good few months to adapt when theres a certain former Charlton player who cant get a game at the london blue scum who's only 23 & nearly as good as a certain Stevie G (I know you all disagree, but remember his form before leaving charlton). As for defenders, theres Upson, Gabbidon, When fit Wodgate(he'll never play for Madrid), King & Riggott. All available in the summer at the right price according to reports. Barton at Man city Nolan at Bolton, both very good players who'd love to wear the red of Pool! Dont say price because most of the players mentioned here are all reasonablly priced & all the right side of twenty too. YNWA

Upson, Gabbidon, Barton, Riggott, Nolan? If you think these players are going to improve our first team, then thank god your not manager.

The only one that would be good enough is Parker, but that is only if Gerrard were to leave. And I doubt very much that Rafa will go for Parker even if Gerrard does leave, he not the 'continental' style central midfielder that Rafa likes.

I’m afraid were not in the position to spend money just to reinforce the squad with decent players. We need to spend our money on players that can come straight into the first team and improve it.

If there was one half realistic English target I would like to see Rafa go for, it would be Downing. I think he can come straight into our first team and improve it immediately, and he will also improve himself.

Downing and Pennant would have been my pick.

Pennant is one that I definitely like, and would be perfect for the right hand side. His ability is unquestionable.

There's only 1 issue, and everyone knows it, he seems to have a very immature attitude, off the pitch mainly, he has been caught twice drink driving, and the second time was while he was driving some elses car and while he was actually band from driving. There have been suggestions that he is an alcoholic, and Tony Adams has invited him to his rehab clinic.

I know it's irrelevant now because he has gone to Birmingham, but if we had got him for the price they paid and sorted him out, we would have saved upward of 10MIL.

woodgate was found guilty of affray and it was just the crowd he was keeping, every player deserves a second chance and a fit again woodgate could happily wear the liverpool :censored: if you ask me.

As for SWP, id love him here but when he leaves city hes going goonerville, end of story.

English players? I dont want msith, dont rate him at all sorry.
Wouldnt mind owen hargreaves, good utility player and maybe dean ashton, see what rafa could do with him

I agree with some previous comments about British players being over-priced and talentless.  But the fact is, whilst our foreign players have done magnificant in Europe they have disappointed in the Premiership. Therefore, if we buy foreign, we have to buy 'world class' and from the 'top leagues' only (Spain & Italy, the players we've bought from France have been poor).  That said, i'd only buy, King, Bridge, maybe Parker, SWP or Defoe from England, anyone else isn't really better than what we've got.

Totally agree with those saying pennant would have been a good buy, I have always thought he looked a good player

Although you've got to wonder why Wenger wanted rid of him, loaned him out to leeds then birmingham and then sold him. Must be a loose cannon off the pitch but he's still young and I'm sure he'll sort himself out, worth a gamble for a couple of million.

I'm surprized no one has mentioned anything about wayne routledge. He's young, fast, british, can dribble, pass, cross and a liverpool fan. Plus his contract runs out this summer and will be available for a couple of million compensation due to his age.

Stu, Routledge is a very good player, hes better than Nunez 100 times over. But by no means is he in the same league as some of the players we have been linked with recently.
