the 40 games are made up of:
11 friendlies    4 goals
7 WC qualifiers
4 WC finals games
12 EC qualifiers  4 goals
4 EC finals games  4 goals
2 FAST games   2 goals

yeah i can see why you think crouch is no good when he has a better international record than the "best striker in england"

stats are misleading... I agree with Owzat...

You can't be called a world class striker if you're not proven to be a big game performer no matter what your goal scoring record looks like... to say that crouch is world class because of his goal scoring record will be very funny indeed...

unless crouch scores in crucial games in world cup or the european cup he won't be talked about in the same level as owen and rooney...

Peter Crouch scores and creates goals in every comp he plays in, he's scored for US agaist Utd and Chelsea, a perfect hatrick agaist Arsenal was our top scorer last season though under used, scored two great overhead kicks in a few days and though again underused when called upon has scored with both head and feet this season and has still managed to maintain a very impressive international record. So whats the problem? Is that just not enough for 7mil?

It would appear thats the case. Peter Crouch doesnt look the part so he couldnt possiblbly fit in. His record speaks for itself. Heres one for the media lovers. Crouch's record is better than Owens and Rooneys for both club and country these past 2 seasons.

this has nothing to do with whether he looks the part or not, whether he fits in or not. and this has nothing to do with appearance or whether he's 6'7"...

I am aware of all his goals...but the problem is they mean very little in a bigger scope of things... you may build a 4 storey building in a predominantly 1 storey houses and think that it's tall... but it's still a dwarf compared to skyscrapers...

unless he scores a wonder goal against argentina in the world cup... unless he scores 2 goals in a major cup final and gave us a 2-1 win when we were losing 0-1... unless he scores 4 goals in 4 games in the European Cup... unless he scores a header that would spark the comeback of the century...he will never be regarded the same level as owen and rooney and gerrard... his hattrick against a depleted arsenal is nice... but it pales in comparison because very few people will remember it since it was not something that turned around our season...

the fact is that crouch is a very limited footballer and his goalscoring feats are in part due to rafa's clever use of him...

if he can show abit of acceleration in his runs and if he can show he can head the ball instead of the ball hitting his head... then he is in a position to match those remarkable feats...

like it or not as it is he's a very average player with a flattering record... that's all

And no doubt his record breaking run of goals for England were really down to that genius known as McClaren?

I'm guessing you either aren't a fan of stats or won't be because of what the following will show :D And yes £7m isn't a lot, but neither is what Crouch returns. I assume you have some assists figures to back up the "creates" claim.........

Crouch (Liverpool)

34 goals in 110 appearances (0.309 goals/app)

vs Arsenal - 3 goals in 5 appearances (0.600 goals/app)
vs Man Utd - 1 goal in 5 appearances (0.200 goals/app)
vs Chelsea - 1 goal in 11 appearances (0.091 goals/app)

vs A, M or C - 5 goals in 21 appearances (0.231 goals/app)

So the one hat-trick against Arsenal keeping the record against top four teams vaguely respectable, and he averages 66 mins against them so no excuses about time on the pitch (goal every 277 mins)

Crouch (England)

FRIENDLIES : 8 goals in 10 appearances (0.800 goals/app)
Starts : 6 goals in 5 appearances (1.200 goals/app)
Sub : 2 goals in 5 appearances (0.400 goals/app)

COMPETITIVE : 5 goals in 13 appearances (0.385 goals/app)
Starts : 5 goals in 8 appearances (0.625 goals/app)
Sub : 0 goals in 5 appearances (0.000 goals/app)

So most of his goals have come in friendlies, those that have come in competitive matches have been against weak opposition which comprises most

FRIENDLIES (rank in brackets)

0 vs Argentina (1)
0 vs Brazil (2)
0 vs Germany (5)
0 vs Spain (6)
2 vs Greece (14)
1 vs Uruguay (17)
0 vs Colombia (25)
1 vs Hungary (48)
1 vs Austria (88)
3 vs Jamaica (103)

COMPETITIVE (rank in brackets)

0 vs Portugal (8)
0 vs Croatia (10)
0 vs Russia/home (16)
0 vs Russia/away (16)
0 vs Poland (20)
0 vs Sweden (24)
0 vs Paraguay (26)
0 vs Macedonia/home (75)
1 vs Macedonia/away (75)
1 vs Trinidad/Tobago (78)
0 vs Austria (88)
1 vs Estonia (130)
2 vs Andorra (173)

Don't international sides automatically lose 25 ranking places if Crouch scores against them? :D

Average Rank Crouch has scored vs in Friendlies : 54
Average Ranks Crouch blanked vs in Friendlies : 8

Average Rank Crouch has scored vs in Competitive : 114
Average Ranks Crouch blanked vs in Competitive : 31

So the FACTS are, he has yet to score against any side in the top 10, yet to score against a side in the top 70 in competitive matches and has scored in three friendlies against sides in the top 50 - a record the very best would be proud of (not!)

And yes, Rooney's record in competitive matches is not great either. The truly great Mikey Owen has seven goals in friendlies and seven goals in competitive matches in that same period (3 vs Colombia and 2 vs Argentina in friendlies, 2 vs Russia, 1 vs Israel, 1 vs N.Ireland and 1 vs Poland in competitive matches)

And for comparison :

Kuyt - 4 goals in 20 internationals (0.200 goals/app)
Torres - 14 goals in 42 internationals (0.333 goals/app)
Voronin - 5 goals in 44 internationals (0.091 goals/app)

So does that mean Crouch is our best striker? Admittedly I think those figures might not include any games this week, but in general terms the specialist scorer against cr ap teams has the better record..........

Crouch - 13 goals in 23 internationals (0.565 goals/app)

1) Crouch is not Liverpool quality.

2) Crouch should start every game with Torres.

3) This is because Kuyt is the worst footballer ever to play for the club and it's a miracle he made it to professional level.

4) But he still has the ability to score us 20 goals a season.

5) Torres can win us a game by stepping on the pitch.

6) Hyypia's top speed is now 3.2 mph.

7) No manager using rotation will ever win the league.

8) Rotation devotee Rafa will win us the league within 2 years.

9) No thread is complete without at least three personal insults and 15 quotes per post.

10) Every thread will end with a rotation/Kuyt debate.

11) Harry Kewell gets injured even if he remains motionless.

12) Babel has the control of a newborn deer.

13) But he's also the next Henry.

14) Gerrard is our best ever player.

15) But the sooner he's out of the club, the better team we'll be.

:wwww

point 6 is funny, i always thought it was 3.1 mph  :D

live and learn

Yeah Sami can reach 3.2 but you have to run him rich.  :)

F.uck internationals, compare minutes on pitch and goals scored with Crouch and Kuyt for LIVERPOOL .

Once you've got that stat, you know where to shove it.

You are on mate, how much? 50p  or maybe just public humiliation to the loser? I think Lampard might have already scored more than Kuyt will manage all season :D
