andy_g wrote:not so sure about that brian reade article myself. i think it deserves a mention that if any out of o'neill, redknapp or hughes were managing one of the established top clubs they would have got much more flak, regardless of their nationalities. in fact i can see hughes in particular coming under some real pressure very soon.

the truth is that the manager of any big club, or well funded club, that fails to achieve the standards expected from that club will get criticised both by the media and by the public.

Perhaps, Andy, but I would think Man City's done enough spending and underperforming at this stage to be well and truly in the sights of the pundits right now.  All the talk before the season began was of them taking their place in the top four or at least making it a top five.  They may still do, of course, but their current form is surely a massive underachievement given the talent at their disposal and the quality of the opposition they've been playing.  If they're getting a soft ride from the media, that's interesting I should think.

BTW, I've merged Ciggy's latest media thread with her earlier media thread to provide some context for this latest discussion.

Well I been saying we need a manager that knows the league for years now not just this year so I ain't been buying into it.Any ways I take any manager who knows the prem not just English. One of of the  journos was supporting Rafa on Sunday supplement tbph. The other two was having a joke and saying yeah keep Rafa he doing a great job at throwing us the title , we love him since we are manc and chelsea fans.  :O

In fairness to Hughes he is still in the honeymoon phase as far as all these expensive signings go, and even the pundits surely know gelling a team together isn't a quick process. Unless of course your "the special one". However it will be interesting over time to see what kind of flack he gets from the press. My hunch is though the owners of City will sack him before the vultures get their claws stuck into him.

All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

This is the thing with some of our supporters, they spend most their life moaning and whinging about what the to.ss pots in the media are saying about our club. Then log on here where genuine Liverpool fans are conversing about the rights and wrongs of our club, and these moaners get peeved off even more with it. Their blood pressure goes through the roof and they take it out on fellow Pool fans. That isn't on, if it makes them so irrate stop reading that sh.ite the media produce!

I don't take any notice of what the rags are printing, most of it's b@llocks anyway.

I don't think that the newspapers have a vendetta against Liverpool or Rafa, they print :censored: about every club and manager.

Even if they do so what? I won't lose any sleep over it.

i get to see and hear about a lot of the :censored: that comes into the press office at the bbc, some of it is such a joke they put it into the bin then and there.

they had one the other day saying MON had had talks with G&H, after looking into to it, it was put to one side (and not the bin).

I haven't nan and I am not so sure I like MON as a manager.I think he has been lucky really to fall on a team with some good young tallent in it.I think personaly Hodgson is better manager.I still don't think Rafa can do any more at this club unless he was given 100 mil.Sometimes in football you have to take 2 steps back to go 3 forward.I do love Rafa for what he has done for our club and I respect him for sticking with us when the times have been hard and I have no doubt he loves the club and liverpool as a whole and as a fan I can't ask for much more. But if we keep getting bad results there has to be a point when you ask your self are we as fans thinking to much with our hearts. The club has been last 2 seasons a ticking time bomb and with a squad so thin of tallent I been asking my self when this run of bad form was going to happen.I of course always hope it never happens but it has now and we need to be asking some questions of Rafa I am not saying the kop should be chanting "get Rafa out" because that is not the liverpool way.But that also don't mean we shouldn't still be looking at the managers performance with a steady head and protecting that which we love most liverpool FC.

Anyone who is still under the illusion that there is no media agenda designed with the specific intention to derail , and ridicule Liverpool's current campaign ,is currently presiding  in cloud cuckoo land .

Yesterdays onslaught by the press was relentless in its condemnation of Rafa ,I made the mistake of picking up the Daily Mail and reading an article which questioned repetitively the unequivocal support Benitez receives from Die hards ,and stated unashamedly how misguided it felt that support was .

It truly  beggars belief that they find it so galling that some fans still have faith in the man ,and no matter how hard they snipe and scoff ,the truth is they no sweet F.A about football and the common fan ,and they can type till their nasty little fingers turn blue and it will still never shake our resolve .

I think the abuse Ngog received yesterday was nothing short of grotesque in its nature ,if Ngog fled the country after this then who would blame him ,in point of fact he could easily be forgiven if he thought he had committed the most heinous act in football ,the way Sky trotted out ex players to condemn his actions ...FFS that b@stard Luke McCormick never received half this coverage , surely people can see how this alone is justification that these feelings of paranoia are not just the ramblings of a few disgruntled Scousers . :(
