Return of bad dreams - Plus ca change

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby vlady16.1 » Fri Mar 10, 2006 2:24 am

i am very concerned that i am seeing something very similar to the bad old days under houllier

we shoot -- we don't score--- we have many chances but don't convert and it doesn't seem to matter who we have out there

nando -- buckets with marseilles-can't hit the side of a barn
cisse- useless but great in france
crouch- what 15 last year
fowler -- still god in my eyes and will start to score goals that count

pongo, mellor aren't the answer

delivery is improving thru kewells excellent play-- stevie xabi still as good as ever

obviously i can't get to anfield as i live in canada, but are we simply playing like we did under gh ie: basically playing an 8-2

i didn't see benfica game as it was on at midnight and as i heard the score and work early, i didn't see the point but it just seems the same -- we should score 3 or 4 but just don't

don't get me wrong- i love rafa, think we are doing great and know we are going in the right direction and besides i wear my fowler jersey with pride-- it just scares me that we are wasting so many chances

You contradict yourself a couple of times in that.

How do you reconcile the comment "I am very concerned that I am seeing something very similar to the bad old days under houllier" with "i love rafa, think we are doing great and know we are going in the right direction"?

Also, is the 8-2 formation something to do with ice hockey?  :D

:O When did Morientes play at marseilles  :D
Should have left him there like when we got Kewell from Everton (sorry couldnt resist  :;): )
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

let me explain myself as maybe i wasn't clear

1)forgive me if i am wrong but did not nando lead the champions league in scoring while at loan to marseilles??? i realize he was real property but was loaned out prior to us getting him and i remember that he played very well then --

2) what i meant was playing so defensively that the midfield falls back to the defence thus fuctionally an 8-2 -- can't do that in hockey -- only 5 out-- obviously this would be rather difficult to 100% discern on tv but live it would be obvious -- i worry about the love of the long ball-- houllier seemed to do this all the time and i hope we aren't doing that again

yes i really like where the team is heading -- look we can play anyone but need to improve to beat the best in the world
but i am troubled that at times we look like the houllier teams of old

He was on loan to Monaco.

And for your topic, I'd be a damn sight more worried if we weren't even creating chances. All we need is a goal poacher to put these away and a right midfielder and we are sorted. We are having a great season and our time under Rafa is nothing like the dark days under Houllier. Wait till next season when Rafa can finish his jigsaw in the summer and then we will see.

sorry -- monaco well its french anyway so i was close- different country but down the way from marseilles-- still warm and barely clad females so there

can't agree with you more-- if we add a right mid and 2 strikers we'll be fine-- i'd love to see a proven premiership player come in though so we don't have the : can't handle the weather, don't like the food yada yada yada stuff -- swp would be great but we'll never get him but i think thats where the speed should be

i'm just waiting for fowler to show his old form -- he could be the poacher we need -- i see glimpses and man he looks motivated and does the little things well-- i also have faith that nando will make good -- he's just too good a player to play this bad -- but maybe he just can't play in england

just to add i really feel that when fowler left that was the start of the downward spell under houllier  -- it just seemed that the team lost something and hopefully he's brought that something back

Hey mate I don`t think the houllier days were that bad maybe we didn`t play very attractive football but we did win quite a few trophies. As for benitez he`s a legend in mine and most liverpool fans eyes the longer he`s here the better we`ll become, don`t worry mate rafa will sort it.

Bear in mind that Arsenal played a *Powerplay* today, and that in football is also a problem. 2X Powerplay is even worse, because with a single Powerplay you still can have a balanced team if you train well and have some order.
