Rafa Benitez today urged his players to put a difficult month behind them by getting February off to a flier on Sunday.

The Reds won one and drew four of their January fixtures, dropping from first to third in the Barclays Premier League.
As a result, this week's headlines have not reflected the fact that Liverpool are eight points better off than at this stage last season.
But Benitez knows all this will change with a victory over Phil Scolari's Chelsea on Sunday.
He told his weekly press conference: "We know in January we have not won games that we could have won. But the positive news is that January has finished!
"I can guarantee you 100 per cent that I didn't read the press or watch the TV (after Wigan). I just enjoyed time with my family, because I knew there could be people talking.
"We are eight points better than last season. We are two points from the top. We are in a fantastic position and I'm sure if we beat Chelsea people will talk in a different way. That's football. Again I will say, we are in the best position we've been in for the last 10 or 15 years and we have to enjoy it.
"In August we talked about wanting to be contenders. We were in a fantastic position and people were saying, 'This is your year'. But we are still in the title race. We just have to keep the confidence and if we beat Chelsea, everyone will be saying we have options. If we can't beat them, we just have to keep going because it's a long race."
Journalists quizzed Benitez on whether he saw similarities between Liverpool's press coverage this week and that endured by Scolari and Chelsea earlier in the season.
He responded: "Scolari is a fantastic manager with experience. He's doing a very good job. It's part of the game that people who maybe don't know too much talk.
"Chelsea clearly have a very good team. They can be there.
"They are playing offensive, good football. They have good players and they will be close right until the end."
Liverpool go into the game having already beaten their two main title rivals this season - and Benitez is under no illusions as to the importance of making it a hat-trick on Sunday.
He added: "To win at Stamford Bridge was difficult. It was a very good game and we showed quality and character. At Anfield we beat United and if we can do the same against Chelsea, maybe we'll write the headlines for something positive.
"It has always been important to win these games but this year it's maybe more important because we are closer.
"Last season we were a long way behind - it wasn't the same. But we're level with Chelsea now so it means even more that this could be three points for us and three points they can't get."
The boss was also asked about the possibility of scrapping the January transfer window and allowing clubs to buy players all year round until the final six weeks of the season.
Benitez does not back the idea, explaining: "I don't see any problem with two transfer windows, two options - it's good. If you change it you get a lot of speculation every week."
Meanwhile, Benitez has a fully fit squad going into the Chelsea clash aside from Philipp Degen, who picked up a knock in Thursday's reserve clash with Man Utd.
. He's basically saying it like it is, a win against Chelsea and we might be looking at a whole different scenario.
). I've got a feeling the Chelsea game might even be more important than we are giving it credit for. It could really be an even bigger opportunity to put our troubles behind us than we currently realise.
).
It's time after 11 matches that someone scored a goal against Man Utd. Step forward Tim Cahill with your oh so fecking annoying punchbag celebration and silly tattoos. Much as it pains me to admit it you are a good player at attacking crosses, one of the best. It's time for Rafa the lucky manager to have a wee slice of luck again. We didn't use absolutely all of it at the start of the season, if I'm not mistaken if you look under the lid there's a sliver left, enough to scrape accross half a slice of toast.

Just to throw a spanner in the works, I've woken up this mornign with a little hunch (behave yourselves). I've got a feeling the Chelsea game might even be more important than we are giving it credit for. Anyone fancy Everton to nick a result at Old Trafford and blow the whole thing wide open again? I tell you what, much much stranger things have happened.
There has been far too much self congratulatory posting on here the last couple of days (including from me). It reminds me of periods when we've won a few and you've had the pro rotationers slapping each other on the back saying how fantastic the manager is/was. It didn't matter how much you told 'em to shush cos they'll spoil it, they carried on. It was right to drop Keane when he'd just scored twice cos we beat newcastle 5-1 blah blah blah. It just goes to prove blah blah blah. It didn't prove anything, except that fooptball has a habit of biting you on the erse if you think you are too clever. Maybe some of us are thinking we are too clever at the moent and football is about to bite back. Perhaps people who support the manager almost unconditionally will get their day in the sun. It's time to rebalance the books, it's time for football to bite back. It's times for Sabes, Lando and GBYS to have their day ("but how do you know it's time, maybe it depends on what part of the World your in, maybe it'll be time time tomorrow................" shhhhh mate).
It's time for some unpredictability and this super strong vintage of Premiership to show that indeed it is more competitive than it has been in previous yearsIt's time after 11 matches that someone scored a goal against Man Utd. Step forward Tim Cahill with your oh so fecking annoying punchbag celebration and silly tattoos. Much as it pains me to admit it you are a good player at attacking crosses, one of the best. It's time. Man Utd 0-1 Everton. Then it's game on.

. They'll be up for it, Moyes's eyes will be bulging out of his head like Stretch Armstrong when you squeeze his neck (just for a change like) and I've got me fingers crossed they do the bizzo.

bigmick wrote:Stranger things definately have happened Baz, and if Everton are 8/1 that's a huge price. Their record against the top clubs recently is excellent, they're a half decent side and it's worth remembering that although the Mancs are winning, they aren't firing on all cylinders (WBA aside).
It's not like we're talking about Fulham going there and getting a point, or Stoke (I know), we're talking about the possibility of the team which is in sixth spot upsetting the team who leads.
Despite fan rivalries, the Liverpool and Everton players will no doubt get on very well. There'll have been plenty of "can't wait to see you c...s do us a favour" texts flying about, (or "cn't w8 2 c u c...s" or whatever the feck it is). Lets also be totally clear there, the bitters are dreamers and will think that not only have they got a realistic chance of a Champions League spot, they'll be quietly thinking that if they go to Old Tafford and win, they could yet win the league. They'll be up for it, Moyes's eyes will be bulging out of his head like Stretch Armstrong when you squeeze his neck (just for a change like) and I've got me fingers crossed they do the bizzo.
If the league really is as strong and competitive as everyone kept telling me when we were top of it, surely somebody must be able to score a goal against Man Utd after 12 matches?
back off to mid table!
