Jermaine pennant - off to valencia on a bosman

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby akumaface » Sat Jan 17, 2009 2:08 pm

I think Pennant is a lost cause and nothing is going to happened. He will be a free in the summer and that's a fact. I think if there weren't any club asking for his service recently, he would be worry and may jumb even with a lower salary to prolong his career. But since apparently several club had asked for his service, he knows he is still in demand. So, it is best for him to stay put and wait till his deal expired. Not blaming him for this if the Sony scenerio holds true :D . I think I would do the same. Beside, it is not critical with or without his transfer money. Anyway, just hope that whether Pennants leave or not is not the biggest story for LFC during this Jan transfer window.

He is a lazy bum. If he had any motivation to play at all he would take this chance and :censored: off.

I don't necessarily think that Rafa has "treated Pennant like sh!t", but by the same token I'd be surprised if Pennant has the manager on his Christmas card list. Purely from the players point of view (and they almost ALL only think that way), it makes perfect sense for him to sit on his hands (or indeed his erse in this case) and negotiate a top deal for himself in the Summer. It's quite possible that someone like Redknapp has tapped him up already, told him to stay put and there'll be a good contract at a good club waiting for him in the Summer.

As I said, he's a tool but most footballers and indeed most people would do exactly the same.

too right and although i don't agree with him doing this, i can't bring myself to blame him. He is honouring a contract LFC gave him and he won't get the same money elsewhere.

The lad hasn't made the grade here, but if he wants to stay then that is his option.

blame Parry and rafa who signed him and gave him the contract. Would you leave if you were him and take a 15k a week pay cut?

Come on.....lets get off the high horses shall we...

He has 6 months to go.... and it will be a big pay-day for him. WHy would he want to throw it away and agree to go to a $hit team like portmouth ?

Benitez is pretty precise about his negotiations on his career.... When pennant does the same thing....he gets battered....

Its incomparable with the Rafa situation, he simply wants autonomy over the running of the team, transfers etc, so it's not about money.

Peasant knows he won't get the same money elsewhere, unless he goes to the racist country of Spain - assuming the Real Madrid reported interest wasn't fiction. Of course he wants to stay here, pick up his money.

Plenty before him have been deemed not good enough or not wanted for whatever reason and moved on. Do you think all of Crouch, Fowler, Heskey, Pongolle, Le Tallec, Hamann, Biscan, Baros, Cisse etc wanted to leave and picked up the same wages or more where they moved to? Of course not. But did they dig in, set up defences and make it very difficult to facilitate their departure? There's the fair comparisons, how many players have seen out their contract? Kewell is the only one I can think of off the top of my head.

Or put it simply, do YOU believe Pennant really believe his future is at Anfield when he's played less than 250 mins first team football and can't even get a place on the bench? By those measures of realism I reckon I should pop down to Anfield now and ask for a contract.

EDIT : And don't be too hasty to tar Rafa with the same brush as Pennant, rumour has it that the manager at Real Madrid is keeping the seat warm for Rafa.

pennant blew his chance to play for either madrid or milan . They wont go back in the summer as they just wanted cover until they could get a real star in the summer . Im more than expecting him to be at a wigan bolton stoke etc or one of the promoted clubs . Right level for him .

I would have been content with 3Mil but 2Mil??? I guess it is better than watching him go for nothing in the summer.
