Jermaine pennant - off to valencia on a bosman

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

As far as I can remember, pennant has not been awful at all.. in fact my general impression (possibly inaccurate i know) is that he has done alright whenever he got his chance. But I guess the same can be said about bellamy, crouch, finnan, etc before they left.. weren't bad but weren't outstanding either.

We will just never be able to fully understand what Rafa sees or doesn't see in a player.

But the pattern is pretty similar so far.. First he bought someone, then he tried him, then he shelved him and eventually sold him. Sometimes real quick (Pellegrino, morientes) and often without proper explanation. But so be it cos he is the boss and we must assume he sees more than what we can see on the surface.

I would say pennant (& possibly babel) is currently falling into this category. And while you are in it, it has almost certainly marked the end of your liverpool career. Crouch is obviously the prime example.

From Guillem Balague.com

It’s been an unusual couple of weeks for Jermaine Pennant who, after spending most of the season on the fringes of the Liverpool squad, suddenly became the focus of some unexpected transfer speculation involving a move to Real Madrid.

Pennant has avoided speaking to the press in recent weeks as the reports of a €3.5 million bid from the Spanish champions made the headlines, but the 25 year old Liverpool winger decided to break his silence in an exclusive interview with me today.

“I haven’t spoken to anybody all these weeks because I wanted to focus on my game, on training hard to convince the manager he can count on me,” said Pennant.

The former Arsenal player would be the first to admit that he has yet to fulfill his potential at Anfield since his £6.7 million move from Birmingham two-and-a-half years ago, and he remains committed to the current league leaders.

“I cannot imagine playing for another Premier League team after Liverpool,” added Pennant.

However, after having barely featured for Liverpool this season, playing just four times after falling behind Dirk Kuyt, Yossi Benayoun and Ryan Babel in Rafael Benitez's plans, the sudden talk of a move to Real Madrid must have come as a bit of a surprise.

Pennant confirmed that it was more than media speculation: “I know real Madrid made an offer for me. Real Madrid is a great club, so is Liverpool. I am not sure of the situation now; I am flattered that a club as huge as Real has shown interest in me, so we will have to see.”

By some people's arguements then that proves Pennant's world class if Real Madrid want him!

According to the Madrid press the offer was for real, it was a 3.5M pounds offer, Rafa would have accepted it, but Pennant asked too much wages. So the operation could not be possible.

itsn't the first transfer he has turned down (if true)....but would be shocked if he really has turnd down a move over money.

Maybe Antonio Valencia to Real Madrid, Jermaine Pennant to Wigan and Adam Hammill back in the Liverpool squad.

he should stop wasting everyone's time and leave. if he really is a fan of LFC he would leave now so we can gain revenue, as he had zero chance of getting a new contract which is expiring and it means he will leave on free and cost us at least 3milllion. he has no future. face it, he isnt even on the bench in any of the games. he is just being a money grabbing leech.

i couldnt have put it better myself. "money grabbing leech."
I mean usually when a player is young he wants to play games on a regualr basis at a decent level. But mr penny is here just for the spondoolies. What a clown.

its not his fault. He was offered a contract by the club and has every right to see it out.

Pennant knows full well he won't get paid the same anywhere else and that's why he is still here. Stoke won't match his wages and i imagine Real Madrid would only want him as a squad player, hence the lower wage offer.

Would anyone here change jobs for less money?  I doubt it  :no

I, and 1000s of others, will say he's world class if that helps get someone to buy him off us. Doesn't mean that he is or that I/we mean it, but anything to get rid of the german peasant
Never buy from PC World, product quality is poor and their 'customer service' is even poorer

All i keep reading about is more and more clubs after Pennant, I think he does have a bit of quality but i'd be glad to see the back of him if we could get around £4.5 million.

I wouldn't be surprised thou if he does move to spain and does really well, we may even look back and wish we'd used him more.

that still makes him a money grabbing leechy spoondilly  :D
a true pro would rather have progression and playing time and trpohies then money. like the case of SWP. he lost his England place because he didnt play for Chelsea often. yet he moved is doing so well and reaching the heights of his potential, the same potential which made his former club splash out so much for him.
