His attributes (tall, fast etc.) look good on paper for a team like ours, but honestly I wonder if that's the only thing we're basing our decision on signing this lad. If not, then I wonder when did we scout him properly. Personally, I've actually seen Leipzig play about 4 or 5 times this season (including the two games against us), but I've never actually seen Konate play! A quick google check confirms, as most of us know, that he was injured for various reasons for most of the season, and when he wasn't injured someone else was preferred ahead of him. Unfortunately, the same can be said for his previous season as well. So, considering his age (21 y.o.), I ask again, when did we even have the chance to watch him play and come to the decision to sign him? When he was 19? And what warrants the huge price-tag for someone who has struggled to string 5 games in a row for most of his senior career? I don't want to be so negative before he even kicks a ball but I must say this is a very puzzling transfer considering the fact we already have injury prone defenders.
On the other hand though, since Klopp has arrived, we've hardly made a wrong decision for big money signings (knock on wood I don't jinx it). The people responsible for transfers at our club have proven they know what they are doing, so I hope this time will be no different.
Anyway, welcome to the biggest club in the world Ibrahima Konate.
