Never seen the lad play but he’s got a great build for a CB, him and Virgil would certainly make an imposing centre-back pairing, can’t wait to see him in a red shirt. Welcome to the club mate.

Certainly sounds like he has the raw attributes in height, strength, wins a lot of headers, and recovery pace. Just a matter of how good of a defender he is. Might try to catch him at the U21s Euros next week if he's selected for France.

I think if he is close to being a finished player at 21 then he could become some defender.

Really pleased with this signing. Leipzig didn't want to sell him and tried everything to get him to sign a new deal and end the release clause.

He's big powerful, powerful and can pass. I think he'll do well.

Interesting read

I also read that at 100m he is the fastest player at Leipzig ( imagine, a defender is the fastest player in a team that run a lot) which will help us play that high line again. All the teams he has played for, play with that same high defensive line philosophy. The more I read, the more I think this will be a great buy.

What is very obvious is the guy is naturally very fast and athletic - just as VVD is. It add a whole new dimension being able to cover the whole of the back 1/3 of the field when pressing forward. Stay fit young man.

His attributes (tall, fast etc.) look good on paper for a team like ours, but honestly I wonder if that's the only thing we're basing our decision on signing this lad. If not, then I wonder when did we scout him properly. Personally, I've actually seen Leipzig play about 4 or 5 times this season (including the two games against us), but I've never actually seen Konate play! A quick google check confirms, as most of us know, that he was injured for various reasons for most of the season, and when he wasn't injured someone else was preferred ahead of him. Unfortunately, the same can be said for his previous season as well. So, considering his age (21 y.o.), I ask again, when did we even have the chance to watch him play and come to the decision to sign him? When he was 19? And what warrants the huge price-tag for someone who has struggled to string 5 games in a row for most of his senior career? I don't want to be so negative before he even kicks a ball but I must say this is a very puzzling transfer considering the fact we already have injury prone defenders.

On the other hand though, since Klopp has arrived, we've hardly made a wrong decision for big money signings (knock on wood I don't jinx it). The people responsible for transfers at our club have proven they know what they are doing, so I hope this time will be no different.

Anyway, welcome to the biggest club in the world Ibrahima Konate.

I agree mate I'm quite baffled myself. I just hope his not Matip M2, his injury record is a concern. The last thing we need is another CB to join the rehab party.
