I'm getting married abroad (Turkey) on the 26th May and then we are having a wedding party when we get home. Am just putting together a playlist for the DJ and i'm quite enjoying the idea of being able to select all the music, it's brilliant! when else do ya get to do that! I've already put a ban on any song by the awful ABBA, what is it about ABBA and weddings? Anyways, I've already picked out a lot of the stuff I like (lot's of 90's dance, some 80's and some recent stuff) but i'm struggling a bit with the 'proper music' that you can dance to section, stuff you're parents will dance (badly) too, not sure they wanna dance to house music all night! So far i've got:

The Clash - Rock the Casbah
The Jam - Start
The Who - My Generation
The Beatles - Love Me Do

I could use a few more suggestions!

To get the older set out on the floor, mate, it has to not only something they know but something with enough of a beat to actually dance to.  "Twist and Shout" always seems to be a hit with the salt and pepper set at any wedding I've been to.  Abba, as much as you hate them, are dancefloor favourites to because you don't have to have a degree from Juliard to recognize the beat.  Might I suggest mining some of the less OTT and cheesy disco-esque stylings of the late 70s....they're always clear on the beat and the old timers know 'em.  Something like Stevie Wonder's "Supersticious" or the Ohio Players "Fire".  Moving more in the direction of rock, you might go with something like "Modern Love" from Bowie or "Brown Eyed Girl."  But, the one absolute must that will appeal to EVERYONE in the room is this little gem. Do not leave this off the playlist! :D

What about...

Thin Lizzy - The boys are back in town (A dads' favourite!)

Stealer's Wheel - Stuck in the middle with you

Boston - More than a feeling (Air guitar classic for the ageing rockers!)

Rick Springfield - Jesse's Girl (Underrated, awesome tune)

Undertones - Teenage Kicks (A big hit at Irish weddings :nod )
