What was the top 3 games for each of you that read this thread, that was the 'defining' game for you, on any platform from any time?

My fave three of all time are based on the impact they had on me at the time.

1. NHLPA Hockey 93 (Megadrive)
I played this at a mates house and then subsequently mithered the life out of my mum to get me a megadrive. This game was a mainstay throughout my ownership of the Megadrive, it was always the game I returned to in between other games.

2. Medal Of Honour. (Playstation)
This game blew me away. At a time when games like Doom were dominating FPS it was really refreshing to have the WWII setting and has paved the way for so many other.

3. GTA 3 (PS2)
I know it's successors have let this game trailing in their wake, but how much did this game push the boundaries at the time. Never before had a game so much depth.

finally brought my new tv!!!
now my flat isnt the biggest, so a 42" plasma kinda takes the space away, i moved the sofa back as far as i could and im still right next to it!!!

top 3 games?
in no order:

mariokart on the SNES. the ultimate game for mates, and the best version by far!!!

track and field on the NES: same as above, two button pushing fun all the way!!!

goldenaxe on the megadrive: my fave ever game, and one of the first i ever completed in an arcade.

close but no cigars: OOT, marioworld on the n64, blades of steel, return of the jedi on the spectrum, original sonic, street fighter 2 and the thing with prototype jack and the fighting

worst game ever: ecco the dolphin...why?

Super Mario Galaxy = Awesome!!

Been playing all weekend, graphics are great, music is amazing and controls are real nice.  It is that good that you should buy a Wii just to play it.

yeah it is the best looking Wii game without a doubt.  may not be on 360/PS3 level but the level design and artwork is very lush.

Super Mario Galaxy = Awesome!!

Been playing all weekend, graphics are great, music is amazing and controls are real nice.  It is that good that you should buy a Wii just to play it.

People are always saying how poor the Wii is graphically. It's not the console's fault, as 3rd party devs just don't want to put the effort in as it's already costing them mega bucks for the more beefier consoles, so they think they can crank out any old bollox for Wii and it's alright, simply because it's got less power. Well, Mario Galaxy is proof that the Wii can hold it's own against the likes of 360 and PS3 when it comes to visuals. Nintendo really put the effort in to making this game look good, because they simply had to. It's the flagship of their company, so any shoddy effort for a new Mario game would ruin them.

Personally, I think this is one of the best looking games on any format I've ever seen, and that's not an exaggeration. The art design is practically flawless, and the models of the characters is hard to believe when you consider what it's running on. The Bowser character is one of the best modeled characters I've seen. The effects in the game as well are stunning, from bump mapping, to some very nice distortion effects like glass and ice. This game might as well be running on a 360 or PS3, and it certainly wouldn't look out of place on one of those consoles either. In fact, I'd say it puts a lot of the games to shame on those systems visually. The only thing that lets it down is the resolution.

Roll on two weeks' time.


Imagine that screen with 1080i resolution, with AA. You'd be forgiven thinking it was on one of the more powerful systems.

worst game ever: ecco the dolphin...why?

Don't knock the dolphin man! I was well into it when it came out. The graphics, the movement, the music, the time travel and that big fucking blue whale. Quality!

My personal best would be:

3: Lords of Midnight, ZX Spectrum. First game to use landscaping and never did finish that game.

2:Ocarina of Time, N64. I came about this game by pure luck, I was after a FIFA game in cash converters but this was going for about a tenner. Buying the kids a Wii for xmas ( I say kids it will be in my room! ) so definately getting Twilight Princess.

1: Final Fantasy VII, ps2. Simply the best game ive ever played. The storyline, the music, the annoying random battles ! Masterpiece.
