Well I actually have studied all of the worlds major religions. I took two courses on World Religions.

That doesn't really have anything to do with what was being said anyway.

The claim, as I read it, was that religion is inherently good, and its just people that fc.uk it up. This statement is false to me because 1) religions are not inherently good, and 2) so what? All that really matters at the end of the day is what the implementation looks like, which is very ugly for a lot of religions.

Its like communism. I happened to abhor the ideology, even its its most purest form, but some people argue that its a great ideology, it has just been corrupted when put into practice.  Well doesn't that say something about the ideology? Either its a terrible one to begin with, OR it starts off with false premises that do not actually exist in the natural world. Either way, its something to avoid.

Religion is just superstition, attached to a bunch of old laws. Basically its been superceded by a rabbits foot and the police.

It was just a way of allowing people to feel that they had some sort of control over their fate and the parts of their lives that they had no real control over, and a set of rules to guide them. We now have laws and a police force to enforce them, and while most of us are still superstitious we don't let it rule our lives. No doubt like the original police force, the ancient "commandments" were written by the rich to try to protect what they had from the poor.

People will always take advantage of gullable people, either selling them horiscopes or Bibles, or convincing them that the "work" or the killing they do is in gods name.

People would be better off believing in Father Christmas and the tooth fairy, at least most people don't kill in their name.

It is. But it's a reflection of that free will.
