To be fair, sometimes just typing RIP and doing a sad face doesn't convey your thoughts, so you stay away

The difference, rightly or wrongly, between Mumbai, Gaza, etc is that atrocities closer to home always register heavier due to similarities of culture.

The acts of atrocities are not worse and nor are the feelings towards the victims or evil people who commit the crimes. Our relations within Europe are closer and as such create a deeper impact for most of us than an atrocity that happens on the other side of the world.

Also this is the first terror attack in Norway ever so it is a bit more shocking and a lot more horrific than those other places, not that they aren't also very tragic.

There is no way you could expect kids to mount an offensive, apparently one adult did confront him and was immediately shot, don't forget that this guy had some serious weaponry at his disposal and knew how to use it.

One seriously twisted c$%t though

The fella related to the Norwegian princess who was shot on teh island was a security guard so there was some form of security. Sadly if the fella wore a police uniform, he deceived everyone in the first few vital moments. Apart from that, why would middle class 15 year olds suddenly develop adult primevil survival instincts and attack a man obviously more aggressive and able at killing than them? It aint going to happen.

Hmm, not going to agree with you there, opening fire on group of thousands of protestors in a square is as worse as killing youth in political camp.

I agree with SCS that it's closer to home. Its the same as where I live, the Norway disaster was not as important in our media as the Syrian, Libyan revolution and Palestinian - Israeli conflict.

White europeans puts a slant on it, its 'regional' so more topical - closer to home. Also, other nations have had on going murder for years on end whereas Norway are a peaceful people again making it a stand out story. Would have thought this was obvious?

Hadn't realised (at the time) that the kids were so young, I thought they were mostley in their late teens.

Re your last point . You'd be surprised what kids are capable of.

As kid me and and about a dozen other kids, boys and girls aged between 10 and 13, were playing in Arrowe Park (on the Wirral) when a fella wearing a black hood over his head came out of the woods and grabbed one of the girls. We sh'it ourselves and legged it. After running about 50 yards some of us stopped regrouped and looking back saw the fella dragging the girl towards the woods while her sister was desperately hanging onto his arm in an attempt to stop him. One of our group said "there's eight of us and only one of him let's scrag him ! " We sent one lad running towards some adults in the distance to get help and the rest of us charged the pervert. Seeing us racing towards him he let go of the girl and legged it back into the woods.
We didn't follow him into the woods, we weren't that brave but our action had prevented a rape and possibly worse. All it took was just one lad aged about 12 to get us organised.

Lots of respect Woof

I think the kids might of done something but it was the arsenal off weapons the guy had on him makes you think a little different - would you guys of charged this guy if he was shooting people or pointing a gun ?

Probably not Benny, as I said to Reg "I thought the kids were in their late teens."
Under those circumstances, speaking for myself, I'd try to do something rather than just hide hoping I didn't get picked off.

And let's be fair, it's hardly a thread for Amy Winehouse, it's more of a thread to jig and pi$$ on her grave.
