Mate he's as fit as, he runs a 10 Km run every night, he's the kind of person if you gonna go in with him. You make sure he stays down, if you dont he will bash ya.

He's actually alright without a couple of stella's and making out he knows everything about every sport, verbally though him and his mob got me tonight, and unusually I didnt have many, if good enough comebacks. Now I'm thinking about it I'm kicking myslef.  :veryangry

Rugby is a lot more brute force and athleticism than football, you cant juggernaut your way through the back 4 in a football match (Drogba at Stamford Bridge excluded), but you can use skill to beat your amn or to pick out a pass - You cant play a ball through the opposition in Rugby because your passes must be backwards, so again it is pace and brawn which takes players to the line

The best example of the superior SKILL involved in football is as follows

Greatest footballer of all time Maradona, able to dribble through entire teams, play defense splitting passes and at times do things that almost seemed impossible

Greatest rugby player of all time Johno Lumo , a freak of nature who had blistering pace and huge muscle mass who could swat away 20 stone men like flys

Rugby has many aspects that its players are superior in compared to football, physical ability, teamwork and sportsmanship I would class in this category, but skill is not one

having said that, when you speak of brute force in rugby and intelligence in football. it comes unstuck when you mention Rio Ferdinand

Really?

Ive played quite a bit of Rugby League - and i can assure you, it is a very tactical, skillful game. Of course there are glaring differences between the two sports...but to say Rugby involves no aspect of skill (or at least little of it) is way wide of the mark.

The modern Rugby player is a honed athlete - you do not get the great big lumbering prop forwards of old very often nowadays, they do exist - but they are not the norm. As for direct passages of play breaking through an opposition defence - have you not witnessed the increasing amount of ball play, that is prompted by the 'kicking game' in the Super/National Leagues...some of these guys can split a defence in two with the dexterity of their footwork now.

Rugby players also tend to be well educated and come from priviledged backrounds, and cant stand that some brainless tw@t from Staines is making more in a week than he does in a year :p
