Hey guys,

Anyone good with laptops?
I'm trying to delete Safari and Quicktime from my laptop (Acer, Vista) but I'm unable to do so.
The common manner of going to Control Panel, and then uninstalling doesn't work because I apparently don't have the rights to delete it.
This is despite me being logged onto the administrator account.
Another thing I find odd is that when I right-click on the Safari icon on the desktop, I don't see a "Run as Administrator" option.

:help

Try booting into safe mode (F8 at boot up) and deleting from there. If you can then I suspect you have some corruption or virus.

Hey SCS,

Thanks for the reply. I've tried that and failed. I won't be surprised as well if it's corrupted...I've tried changing the ownership of the files to enable me to delete it but it's failed as well. I guess the best option is to send it to the repair shop otherwise I'll unknowingly worsen the situation.

If you have backed up your data why not rebuild it yourself?

You can quickly rebuild by using the Windows installation disk - it has a repair option. Once repaired just restore your backed up files and reinstall your programs.

Can't seem to find the disc. Another friend of mine sent me a link - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2438651

It works, it removes the file BUT it's so weird! Instead of creating more free space on the laptop, it's being reduced with each program removed.

try the malware first as its the first thing the repair shop will do and they will charge you for doing it.

i'm virus free  :D
this is really strange. it's the first time i'm actually deleting a file and seeing the space on the laptop being reduced, instead of increasing.

Vista sucks.

Go into user profiles and delete all but the administrator account. Never use multi user profiles on Vista again, because it has problems.

Reboot, then delete

Yep downloaded it and gave the pc a scan. No viruses whatsoever.
I think I'm gonna have to go ahead with Metalhead's suggestion and send it in.

Or I might just buy a new laptop, this one has been serving me since 2008  :D

well virus free is always a good sign.
it sounds more like a software issue to me and it could be something to do with your o/s.
try rolling it back to the previous service pack you were running,i think vista is currently on sp 3 so try to go back to 2 and if the problem is gone you can then reinstall sp 3.
as its not hardware related i wouldnt bring it to a shop, personally im a miserable git and unless it was a broken screen or hd problem i wouldnt bother.
there are loads of good tech forums out there where people will love to answer that for you and at least you will have some knowledge of the cause if you do decide to bring it to a shop.it cost nothing to ask the tech junkies and they love a good challenge.
this is a good site and the people are friendly to non tech heads.
best of luck with it.http://www.tech-forums.net/
