Watched this the other night . Visually great to look at but poor script and weak story. Dont expect a Jet Li classic . It isn't  :(  .

i searched through "search" and found none about this film yet
shanghai dream is a must see film in my book, and one of the film that appeard at cannes festival, and reaped success in hong kong asian film festival

Set back in the early 1980's, with the background of the great economic changes in China. against the backdrop of China's reform and opening, The protagonist, nineteen-year-old Qinghong, comes from a typical emigrant family who relocated to Guizhou Province from their hometown of Shanghai in the mid 1960's. That's the setting she was grown up, where her friends are, where she found her true love

But her father believes Shanghai finacially promising “Money is what matters now.” But when Qinghong tells the local boy who has been virtually stalking her that the family is leaving, he assaults her. The family leaves under unfortunate condition

it's probably not a film that makes you "entertained" like kung fu hustle etc., but another good side to expose a china socio-cultural.

on dvd this week, one for you to watch, more kick a$$ korean style with:

a bittersweet life.

its not complex, its simple. it does exactly what it says on the tin: it kicks a$$. and done in the style only korea can do at the moment. if u liked old boy but got a little cnfused, watch this.

also, its directed by the guy who made a tale of two sisters, so if you have seen that you will know the style he uses, which is a good thing trust me

and now for something a lil lighter:

2LDK is a vicious, blacker-than-black comedy about two female roommates locked into a duel to the death.

Overview: A twisted, skillfully paced black comedy, "2LDK" (2-Bedroom, Living Room, Dining Room & Kitchen) packs a startling amount of inventiveness, razor-sharp wit and filmmaking fervor to tell the story of two roommates at odds with the world and each other. Two struggling actresses share a Tokyo apartment. As they compete for the same film role and the same boyfriend, their petty squabbles soon turn into all-out war and when they break out the power tools and electrocution devices, you know these two ladies have forfeited more than their security deposit. Director Yukihiko Tsutsumi, one of the most promising young filmmakers in Japan, pushes his film's premise to the extreme, making for an unforgettable, non-stop barrage of laughs, fights and ultra-violence.
