But you can't keep saying 'we need to up our performance', I don't think England can up the performance that much more than they already are, you can't just flick a switch. I'm convinced England as a team are badly overhyped by the media. There will be heartbreak at the quarter finals or semis at best. I'm just unsure if its Sven, the style of English football not being able to cut it at the top level (i.e. the constant long balls) or the media overhyping the players.

It's more me hoping more than anything else. I think the team is vastly overrated as a unit, but not as individuals.

Yes they are just not that good.  The sooner people realise that the better.  No creativity, no guile, no great skill level.  Crouch's volley in the first half was awful considering how much time and space he had.  Similar to what u see in a park on a sunday.  The Golden Boy Owen missing chances as well.  Owen must be worried that his out for the next game now.

On this form I would fancy Ecudor to beat England.

Carragher had a good game, one of the more impressive England players in the game.

To be fair to England they have been somewhat creative, they just haven't taken their chances. Lampard had about three efforts on goal, two of them were sitters, one he blasted over the bar and another one where he cut inside and knocked it str8 into Hislop, Crouch had a golden sitter and a shot that hit the post, Owen had a few. England might be able to cause some major shocks if they are able to take their chances, instead of wasting them.

This is ridiculous. It's driving me mad seeing Stevie playing as a defender. We know he can play the holding role if he has to, but what a freakin ridiculous waste. Are you freakin stupid Sven? He could win you the world cup. Play Carrick at the back, let him hold. If you have to, play Lampard just behind Gerrard in a 4-5-1 and let Gerrard roam free.

Also, Lennon was brilliant when he came on.

ENGLAND WILL NOT WIN THE WORLD CUP!
It's as simple as that i'm afraid. Today's performance was shite without a doubt. If england are to make any headway in the rest of this tournament the manager has to show he's got some bollox and make changes. The midfield as it is just doesn't work, Fat Lampard and Stevie G can't play together and from my point of view Stevie is the one that has to be allowed to do his thing in the centre of the park. We may have a biased opinion on here 'cos none of us like Fat Lampard. He has got quality but it is vastly outweighed by Gerrards class and the sooner sven realises that the sooner England will start making more of an impact on the tournament.
The 2-0 score didn't really flatter england as they did have plenty of chances but it shouldn't be used to paper over the vast cracks that have been exposed in the last two games. When the time comes to face some quality opposition the bare truth will be exposed that the supposed quality of the class of 2006 that was going to challenge for the world cup won't be able to challenge for an egg cup.

THINGS CAN ONLY GET BETTER!!!

Fat frank must be dropped for next game and Carrick/Beckham/Carragher brought into defensive midfield. Gerrard has proven again that he needs to be played further forward to have an impact on games. Svens big decision now is owen/rooney/crouch which two to play. I think he will start with rooney and owen and use crouch as his "impact player". owen and crouch were both poor today and I was surprised when he chose crouch not owen to stay on but at least crouch was causing them some problems. A.Cole didnt look very sharp and J.Cole was much too slow at delivering his passes/crosses.All in all another inept performance but another win which means we progress. I just hope we dont meet Germany in next round (Equidor will be bad enough!)

I'd drop Beckham, his freekicks today were woeful and that basically all he offers England, freekicks and crosses, I'd much rather have a midfield of

Downing.......Carrick.......Gerrard......Lennon.

Liverpool save England from humiliation

Although clearly dominating the game, England were unable to discard their Ikea blueprint and stuck to a carefully spelt out and by now predictable assembly plan ,unfortunately for them Trinidad and Tobago along with many other countries can now buy a swedish designed bookcase via the internet and are therefore well versed in how to disassemble a plan built from planks ,screws and nuts even though they might be made of the finest quality .

Only the inclusion in the match of materials from Liverpool thwarted a team of painters and decorators from the Caribbean from pebble dashing hopes of glory .

:(

Seriously . My hopes of us (England) winning this competition are severely dented. Despite the supposed quality in the squad ,there is a distinct lack of invention and suprise .
Time to take the leash off , I get the feeling that all the England players are constricted due to Svens gameplan  and are not playing to the top of their game .

IMPOSE YOUSELVES .
