so as it stands we have made him an offer and now he gets to take a few days and think about it.it fooking baffles me that does as its the liverpool job ffs and he is a no mark who has been giving a golden opportunity and yet he has to think about it. .
we were never ever looking for anyone else imo and this whole process is a shambles.

at a guess i`d say it`s our new structure that he`s thinking about, martinez may be spanish but he`s only ever worked in english footy, he`s used to having total control. at wigan and swansea he controlled everything on the playing side at all levels of the clubs.
the fact van gaal may be our DoF is probably something he`s thinking about too, not the easiest fella in the world to get on with.
he may choose to go to villa if they offer him total control there, we are all assuming that he`ll say yes.
for all we know he may be thinking liverpool is an amazing club but what are the odds of not having a run in with van gaal? and do i need the hassle?
i think it`s fair enough that he`s thinking about it for a few days.

No, I'm being realistic! Breaking into the top four is extremely difficult. On what grounds are you basing your argument that Martinez is capable/qualified to do such a job? Simply because Wigan play slightly better football than the other relegation strugglers? He's such a good manager that he even led Wigan to their worse ever result. 9-1 against Man Utd I think. No matter how you look at it, Martinez is a huge risk that's not worth taking in our current situation!

I'm not sure what to think really don't know whether it will work or not. It reminds me of when Liam Brady became manager of Celtic about 20 years ago that could have worked but it didn't. The question really is how much control he will have over transfers etc. and if that is limited whether he'll take it because he wants to further his career.

I just don't know what to think. I'm not convinced that Rafa at the moment is the answer but I would have thought that there are better managers in England and abroad who would want to manage Liverpool than Martinez. Three months ago Whelan was halfway to sacking him or questioning his team selection when they lost at home to Bolton I think it was.

I don't think he would be another Hodgson as his teams play fast attacking football but I wonder whether he's able to get top players to perform every week. Who is he going to sign? Who will the club appoint as DOF? How will he react when the team loses a game or two?

To be honest if the best we can do is employ someone who spent most of his career in the lower leagues of England and Spain, never played an International game for Spain and whose only achievement is keeping Wigan in the premiership something that Steve Bruce managed we might just as well have given Kenny until at least Christmas.

If he does get the job next week or whenever I think the owners could be in for a rough ride over the next few weeks and months unless they really have got someone like Van Gaal lined up for the DOF position.

but 4th still takes a bit of doing, there`s no way we are going to finish above city and united next season so there are 2 places gone and that leaves arsenal, chelsea, spurs and us (and maybe newcastle) fighting it out for the other 2 places.
arsenal had a lot of bad luck with injuries last year, wilshere will be like a new signing and i think podolski has already signed for them and i expect chelsea to splash out if they bring a new manager in. we know hazard will start next season at one of our rivals too.

Really? That's your argument? We're not Fulham either, and that really worked out. Like I said before, Martinez is the flavour of the month just like Hodgson was. He has done nothing to deserve the Liverpool job, and his track record doesn't add any credibility to the argument that he could do it.

That wasnt the question Benny.

Take Man City out of the equation and none of those other sides look uncatchable. How Utd gathered up 89 points last season I will never know, but Im pretty sure it involved witchcraft. Chelseas talisman has left, Arsenal flatter to deceive and Spurs will struggle to hold on to their top players now that they havnt got CL football again.

We'll never carry the kind of horrid luck we suffered through last season again. We are not as far away as some may think, it was a massive collapse in the second half of the season that dragged our league position down so far. We were hanging with the top four clubs up until mid Feb. A few astute signings and we'll be back in the mix for top four, though the title currently looks as far away as its ever been over the last twenty years
