Too much, too soon.

Clearly.  But with Jamaica pushing for Raheem to join their senior team it's forcing England into a situation of play him, just for a couple of minutes even, to tie him to England.

The lad is too young to be starting every match and for 90 mins. He will burn out.

That smells of desperation by the manager to me.

why does age matter when you're as good as he is?

i agree that it's a bit of a worry that we're so reliant on him already but what can we do? without him we'd have created bugger all today.

If we had better options then he probably wouldn't be playing so much ... but we don't so we need as much as we can get.

On a side note anyone know when his contract is due?

I know! What does that tell you about the standard of the whole team! I just don't want all the pressure to be on this young lad.

When he's 20/21, and filled out physically. I'm sure he will be the new John Barnes!

I know this may be coming from the opposite end of our thinking, but his agent should be shot.  20 per week for our best player?  Joe Cole should have a word with Raheem.

I was reading the match thread from the Sunderland game and had an absolute mad idea.  Would we be better off having Sterling coming on late in a game as a sub?  Thus reducing the chance of injury of such a young and growing (physically and mentally) player?

shocked by that, what now to stop another club saying that they would pay him 100k a week.
he is worth a hell of a lot more than 20k a week.

He is a 17 year old kid who has played 4 prem games. No one will pay him 100 grand a week. £20 grand is a fair wage for him

rodgers has spoken in the local paper recently about how important it is that young players dont get too much money too soon, he says it takes the edge off their game and they lose that `eye of the tiger` that all young sportsmen, never mind just footballers, should naturally have.
rodgers said until they are mature enough to cope with earning huge sums they shouldnt get the massive wages.
he reckons its a psychological thing.
he`s spoke to raheem about it and sterling says it makes sense what rodgers is saying, thats why rodgers keeps on praising raheems attitude, sterling is not panicking and trying to grab the money while he can, he`s taking a long term view of his career and realises earning £100,000 a week at 17 might interfere with his career development. raheem`s priority at the moment is to be a great footballer not a millionaire.
