André Villas-Boas set for Chelsea as Blues ‘agree fee’
Porto boss will be named Carlo Ancelotti's successor after Chelsea agree to pay £13.2m release fee - reports

Chelsea will name André Villas-Boas as their new manager after the Blues agreed to pay the release clause for the Porto boss, according to reports in Portugal.

Carlo Ancelotti was axed at the end of last season following a trophyless campaign, and reports suggest Blues owner Roman Abramovic has chosen Villas-Boas to be the Italian’s successor.

Chelsea have already agreed to pay Villas-Boas €5m (£4.4m) a season, the same salary José Mourinho earned at Stamford Bridge, according to Jornal de Notícias.

The 33-year-old, who led Porto to three trophies in his first season in full management last term, has a £13.2m clause in his contract which allows him to switch clubs if it is met.

And Porto president Pinta da Costa admitted the club would be powerless to stop him from leaving should certain financial conditions be met.

He said: “Villas-Boas has a contract and a clause of €15m. If someone deposits €15m into our account and he wants to go, we can not do anything because it is something that is contractually specified.”

Villas-Boas, who has also been linked with a move to Internazionale, previously worked under Mourinho at Stamford Bridge and the San Siro before opting to take the reigns at Porto last season.

The highly-rated Porto boss had insisted he wanted to stay on as manager of his hometown club after leading his side to Europa League glory last month.

“I am very happy at Porto,” said Villas-Boas. “It’s the city where I grew up. It’s my home club and I don’t see it easy to leave it.”

at the end of the day he's just the next in a long line who'll get the sack if he doesn't win the cl, irrespective of what he wins domestically.

What's Roman's policy? buy the most hyped up people in the game? Modric - hyped up. Neymar - hyped up. Lakuku - hyped up

I'm not saying they're not good players but a more thought through strategy might be more effective, just a thought

I really hope our owners arent as stupid as Roman and are patient while Kenny attempts to rebuild.

I'll make my prediction now, everything will look good and rosy up until Christmas, after that they'll stutter and perhaps get over the finish line with the title, then the same pattern will occur and he'll be gone not long after

It's one hell of an amount of money to pay for a manager - this takes their spending on coaching staff alone to an excess of £100m since the Russian came - wowzers. £20m alone has been spent this summer changing managers. Mental
