Liverpool Football Club this evening confirmed they had reached agreement for the sale of Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid, subject only to a medical.

It was only a matter of time though wasnt it. I think this is good news now really. Not losing a key player, anyone with sense wanted him to stay but him going has been inevitable for some time now. So the reason its a good think its finally sorted is now we can actually start preparing for the season and Rafa knows for definate that he wont have Xabi and what sort of money he will have now to bring in a replacement/s.

Gutted to see him go but had resigned myself to that fact a while ago.
Thanks for the service Xabi lad...good luck to you as a player but i hope your new clubs season dies on its erse and you win f'ck all.

thanks for all Alonso... hope you have a good season with Madrid and a good worldcup after... great player for us and i feel theres still much more to come from him...

hopefully the money we get is put to good use and we come out of all this a stronger side...

i expect they came a little higher and we went a little lower - normal negotiations - we wanted 32 is million they offered 24 then 28 mill so i reckon it was for 30 mil.
