I think if he stays fit he can do the job but we have heard that one before with Kewell.
My new blog for my upcoming holiday.

I find this all very hard to believe...its like a bad dream!

Why would we sign him,he sounds one of the most injury prone players around!
Then people are saying he is not strong...FFS he'll get injured more in England than in Italy if thats the case!

It cant be true!!

Well according to Olly KAY of the Times . Rafa is looking to change the dynamics of the midfield . Aquilani is a more offensive midfielder ,so rafa's not looking for a replacement in the Xabi mold , more of a positional replacement with the emphasis on  attack . I think that's it anyway , that's my two penneth without knowing what the lad even looks like or plays like .

His judy would defo get it though . Sign the fecker Rafa lad.
UP THE PURPS !!!

2 different types of players. Most of his goals are outside the BOX, I think this is one of the reason why Rafa wants to sign him.

From what I hear, the injuries are a lot to do with the Roma training methods rather than actually being "injury prone" a'la Harry Kewell or Owen.

Bull mate its a lame excuse!
If that was the case then all the players would play less games than Harry Kewell at Roma!
Another excuse was the pit,ch is :censored:....yeah I heard that injures him too...thats bull as well ffs,if it was true how will he get on here around Xmas when half the pitches are chopped up da feck?

He's just injury prone as his record shows, theres no sugar coating it nor any excuses!

Signing him is a HUGE gamble!

I still dont believe it though!! :D

Dundalk wrote:Alberto Aquilani
Age: 25
Nationality: Italian
Club: AS Roma
Position: Central midfielder
Value: £16 million

Career History:
He began his career with his hometown club Roma in 2002, and apart from a loan spell at Triestina he has been with them ever since, making over 100 appearances to date.

Playing Style:
He is a central midfielder known for his excellent passing, powerful long shots, and all round technical ability. He likes to receive the ball centrally and use his excellent passing to build his teams attacks.

Strengths:
His main strengths are his Passing, vision, and shooting. He also has very good game intelligence and excellent technique.

Weaknesses:
Defensively his game is not as good as it could be. He also lacks strength and has proven to be prone to injury.

What Next?
He recently signed a contract extension at Roma who he has supported since he was a child and may be reluctant to leave. But he looks like a readymade replacement for Xabi Alonso, and the money on offer from Liverpool might be too good for Roma to turn down if Rafa Benitez makes a move.

Ratings:
• Overall: 8.3
• Shooting: 8.0
• Passing: 8.5
• Heading: 7.5
• Tackling: 7.5
• Pace: 7.9
• Work-rate: 7.0
• Crossing: 7.5
• Creativity: 8.7
• Dribbling: 8.0

could you post Alonso's ratings from the same site. maybe sneijder's too if you could.

The Fabiomenal 1 wrote:I was very surprised when I read the news about the Liverpool's interest for Aquilani for the first time! I think Reds would become weak if they decided to buy Aquilani and sell Xabi Alonso.

OK, I'm SS Lazio fan and I can't tolerate AS Rome and its players  . Despite this if I must talk seriously I don't have difficult to admit that Rome has many very good players like Totti, De Rossi, Mexes, Juan, Pizarro. What I want to say is that I think Aquilani isn't considerable a player of primary level.

Obviously I follow Serie A as you follow Premier League (which it's however my favourite championship :) ). I'd define Alberto Aquilani an hypothesys of player. They're five years that the medias treat him as a great talent but now he's 25! The problem is he hasn't boomed yet. This is due to his physical problems. Last season he played 14 games in Serie A. He has been absent during all the second part of the season. During 2007-2008 season he played 21 games, while in 2005-2006 even 13! Now he's carrying on a differed work because of the injury that stopped him six months ago. I can't make a complete opinion about this player. Simply because he plays too less during a season. Until this moment in his career he has done 5-6 great performances (for example against Lazio in 2005/2006 derby, Real Madrid, Montenegro with Italy) but not more than this.

Moreover he's not the ideal substitute of Alonso. He's more offensive, he's a gunman. He's a 8 in the old system of numbers. I read that Xabi is one of the midfielder that plays the greatest number of balls and has one of the greatest percent of completed passes. In Rome Pizarro is the director of midfield and eventually De Rossi. In fact every time AS Rome's coach Spalletti decide to play with two central midfielders Aquilani starts sitted on the bench (if he isn't injured).

I consider this player very overrated. The real price should be about 5-10 M, not 20! It's too exaggerated for a player which can't guarantee not even half season. In Italy there are D'Agostino, Inler of Udinese, Palombo of Sampdoria, Montolivo of Fiorentina and Ledesma of Lazio other than Pizarro of Rome that are better than Aquilani in my opinion. They've maybe less talent than him but they're certainties and not bets.

If I were Rafa Benitez I'd point all on Marcos Senna of Villareal. I don't know how much he costs but i think he would be the ideal substitue of Xabi Alonso.

Thanks for your views , now i'm all the more worried about his signing , i hope we get the full cash from alonso and sign silva than maybe haggle over for cattermole if we want him

for that price it would be a snip and we could sell Babel back to Ajax for about 7m, what do you think?

Standard Liege chief Dominique D'Onofrio is not surprised to see Steven Defour linked with Real Madrid.

Reports in Spain claim that Defour will be targeted by Real, if they fail to land Liverpool star Xabi Alonso.

Ironically, Defour is also linked with a switch to Anfield, if Alonso - as expected - departs for Real.

D'Onofrio, though, admits he is not shocked by the reports given Defour's standing as one of the most highly-rated young midfielders in world football.

But he insisted Standard will not be selling this summer.

"We haven't been contacted, but it won't surprise me if Steven is mentioned at Real," D'Onofrio told Het Laatste Nieuws.

"Zinedine Zidiane is an advisor of Real and he is following Defour since he gave him the Golden Boot (for best player in Belgium).

"We are very proud Steven is wanted in the market.

"Defour is ready for a top team, but because of that we won't let him leave.

"Defour is part of the backbone of our squad. He is not for sale, we won't talk about a transfer."

have a bit of belief in Rafa, I appreciate he has signed a few donkeys and the link with Aquiliani and his injuries are worrying, but I am sure he has a plan, that is going to be carefully and coldly implemented. Trust him

Ring Ring
Perez: Hello?
Rafa: Ola, I'd like to buy the Van der Vaart you advertised for sale in the papers.
Perez: Ah, excellent. He's a great little runner and he's available for £13m.
Rafa: £13m?! Well that sounds perfect.
Perez: Si, may I take your name please?
Rafa: It's Rafael Benitez...B..E..N..I..T..E..Z.
Perez: Oh...um...er...hello Mr. Benitez. Would you like to pay the £25m by cash or cheque?
Rafa: £25m? I thought you said £13m.
Perez: Did I say 25? I meant £30m.
..............
Perez: Hello?....Hello?..
